Stoneleigh-Burnham School, an independent boarding and day school for girls ingrades 7-12 in Greenfield, Massachusetts, seeks an experienced General Maintenance/Grounds Worker, effective immediately.

The General Maintenance/Grounds Worker will contribute to the upkeep of various items of equipment, systems and/or components to ensure that the School’s physical plant is in safe operating condition and to help create a safe and comfortable learning and working environment for students and staff. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.
Job Responsibilities:
Ability to use heavy equipment (Tractors, Dump Truck, zero turn mower, 16’ commercial mower)
Ability to use Trimmers, chainsaws and hand tools.
Ability to service equipment and school vehicles.
Ability to make quick repairs to continue the job
Knowledge of putting in soccer, softball fields such as line painting.
Assist other Maintenance and Grounds personnel to support the completion of their work duties (including on-call snow removal, when necessary)
Assist in repair/installation of such items as windows, roofs, building structures, floors, stairs, lighting fixtures, etc.
Assist with facility re-organization of classrooms, offices and other spaces
Assist with carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work
Assist with maintenance of swimming pool
Assist with set-up of school events
Maintain all boiler rooms, janitor closets, maintenance shop and storage areas in constant state of good condition
Maintain tools/equipment in safe operating condition
Practice safe work habits
Participate in staff meetings and trainings, as directed
Maintain professional and appropriate relations with all students, families, staff and visitors
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High School or Vocational School diploma, or equivalent
Valid Massachusetts Driver’s license
Background checks (CORI/SORI/Fingerprinting)
At least 2 years of relevant experience in basic facilities maintenance along with general knowledge of electrical, plumbing and maintenance diagnostics/repair
Ability to work with small tools and equipment
Ability to read, write and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively with staff and students
Ability to apply mathematical skills to allow for accuracy in measurement
Possess the necessary physical abilities, with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including:
Lifting and carrying a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Climbing stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights above ten (10) feet
Performing tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and moving between and within buildings on campus
Working in confined spaces
Working within extreme temperature ranges both indoors and outdoors
Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed
Sense of humor
