CLASSIFICATION: SUPPORT STAFF
JOB TITLE: GENERAL MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
CALENDAR: 2612H (12 MONTH)
SALARY: GRADE 113 (SUPPORT HOURLY)
Job Goal:
This position is responsible for ensuring all school facilities, grounds, and equipment within the Chandler Unified School District are maintained in a safe, functional, and compliant condition. The role involves performing regular inspections, preventative maintenance, and necessary repairs to uphold a high standard of safety and operational efficiency for students, staff, and the community.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent with four years of experience in one of the following specialized craftsman fields: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanics, welding, carpentry, locksmith, electronics, painting, or sprinkler tech
- Expert knowledge in the use of hand power tools and equipment
- Working knowledge of building and safety codes
- Ability to interpret blueprints, drawings, and diagrams
- Valid Arizona driver's license
- Satisfactory criminal background check
- Vision and hearing are adequate to exercise job responsibilities in a safe manner
Core Job Functions:
- Maintain and repair district electronic communication systems (i.e., fire alarm, security systems, intercom, video, sound, and other related systems)
- Coordinate with appropriate district personnel and contractors to develop project specifications and follow up on contractor progress
- Process documentation and paperwork related to job requirements promptly
- Lead, with expertise in the specialized craftsman field, in the repair, alteration, maintenance, construction, and installation of site buildings and grounds
- Plan, direct, monitor, and train other department employees
- Maintain records of time, materials, and parts required to complete work orders
- Perform heavy labor and maintenance work
- Operate truck, hand-powered tools, and equipment
- Oversee the work of other maintenance personnel as assigned by the supervisor
- Maintain the confidentiality of protected student and staff member information even after no longer employed by the district
- Report safety/security hazards and needs for major repairs in an expeditious manner
- Follow district policies as outlined
- Perform all duties in a safe and prudent manner as directed by supervisors

Physical Requirements - Heavy Work:
This position requires a range of physical abilities to perform the essential duties. You must be able to stand and walk constantly on various floor surfaces. The role involves frequent pushing and pulling, with the ability to apply a force of up to 50 pounds for various machines.
You will also be required to lift items of different sizes. This includes frequent lifting of up to 30 pounds. For any item weighing over 50 pounds, a second employee must assist with the lift.
Other physical requirements for this job include:
- Repetitive motions like stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
