Job Summary
The General Maintenance Worker performs multi-trade maintenance and repair activities in support of facility operations. This role provides general building support across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, life safety, and other installed building systems. The position supports preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, equipment identification, and documentation functions as required.
Primary Job Functions
- Inspects facilities, equipment, and building systems to identify maintenance and repair needs.
- Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician, including drywall repair, painting, door hardware repair, and fixture adjustments.
- Assists with maintenance and repair of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and life safety systems.
- Supports identification and documentation of installed building equipment, including asset verification activities.
- Performs scheduled and unscheduled preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Reads gauges, meters, and system indicators to support basic troubleshooting.
- Enters work order updates and maintenance documentation into computerized systems.
- Adheres to safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
- Communicates effectively with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to support facility operations.
Education, Experience and Certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent education
- 1 year of general building maintenance of facility support experience
- Any certifications related to building maintenance or facility systems highly preferred
Work Environment
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop and kneel for short periods, climb a ladder, stand for long periods of time, constant arm extensions.
- Occasional exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, but none to the point of being disagreeable. May involve minor safety hazards where likely result would be cuts, bruises, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of general building maintenance practices across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and life safety systems.
- Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance procedures and safety standards.
- Ability to identify building systems and installed equipment.
- Ability to read gauges, meters, and equipment data plates.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs under supervision.
- Ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other standard office applications.
- Ability to enter data and update work-related documentation in computerized systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively in a professional work environment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
