Description:
Five Rivers, an Akima company, is looking to hire a Facilities General Maintenance Worker who will provide semi-skilled labor support for facilities operations across NSWC PCD. This role involves a wide range of maintenance, repair, transportation, and setup tasks in support of office and event functions. The position requires interaction with technical, scientific, and management personnel and includes operating Government-owned vehicles and equipment. All work must comply with safety regulations and government standards.
Responsibilities:
General Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform minor maintenance tasks (e.g., ceiling tile replacement, drywall repair, painting, caulking, plumbing fixes).
- Adjust and maintain doors, door closers, and automatic openers.
- Clean air vents, diffusers, and respond to water intrusion events.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on HVAC condensate drain lines.
- Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers and AEDs monthly.
- Replace light bulbs and test emergency lighting systems.
- Tint and re-caulk windows; install/repair flooring (non-asbestos only).
- Maintain detailed records and recommend corrective actions.
Furniture & Equipment Handling:
- Transport, install, and reconfigure office furniture and systems.
- Inventory furniture and materials in Government warehouses.
- Deliver printer/copier paper monthly to NSWC PCD buildings.
- Transport items to DRMO and support space moves and events.
- Set up/take down chairs, tables, podiums, and ceremonial decorations.
- Assist with A/V equipment setup (operation not required).
Vehicle & Equipment Operation:
- Operate forklifts, man lifts, pickup trucks, and small electric/gas vehicles.
- Comply with Florida licensing requirements for vehicle operation.
- Pressure wash walkways and building exteriors per environmental standards.
Project & Inspection Support:
- Lead daily projects and coordinate delivery schedules.
- Use ARCHIBUS ticket system for tracking and reporting.
- Conduct inspections for compliance with standards and specifications.
- Investigate trouble calls and report findings to the help desk.
Emergency Preparedness:
- Support hurricane readiness: fill, place, and remove sandbags; secure equipment.
- Perform ad hoc weather-related facility preparations.
Qualifications:
- Must be a US Citizen able to pass a federal and local background and credit check in order to obtain a government clearance and eligible to handle CUI-level information.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in general maintenance or facilities support.
- Experience in a government or military environment preferred.
Licensing & Certifications
- Valid Florida driver’s license required.
- Forklift and man lift certification preferred (or ability to obtain).
Technical Skills
- Ability to perform minor repairs (drywall, plumbing, painting, etc.).
- Familiarity with ARCHIBUS or similar facilities management systems.
- Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and reporting.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and transport items up to 1,200 lbs (with equipment).
- Comfortable working on ladders and in various weather conditions.
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks daily.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to work independently and lead small projects.
- Strong attention to detail and safety compliance.
- Ability to interact professionally with all levels of personnel.
