The Building People, LLC seeks General Maintenance Workers to perform a variety of routine maintenance, repair, and upkeep tasks at government facilities. The General Maintenance Worker addresses minor repairs, conducts preventive maintenance, operates hand and power tools, maintains facility equipment and grounds, keeps records of maintenance work, and orders necessary supplies and parts. This position requires an ability to recognize when a job requires a licensed professional and to report hazardous conditions proactively.
Required Experience & Skills
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical systems, and carpentry sufficient to perform minor repairs and routine maintenance tasks
- Demonstrated ability to use a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively
- Experience performing repairs on minor issues such as leaky faucets, clogged drains, and broken fixtures
- Ability to repair and paint walls, windows, doors, floors, and woodwork
- Experience conducting routine preventive maintenance checks on equipment and systems, including replacing filters, lubricating parts, and performing related upkeep tasks
- Physical ability to perform manual labor including standing, walking, bending, carrying, and lifting
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a facilities maintenance environment
- Ability to maintain accurate records of maintenance work and manage supply and parts orders
- All personnel must obtain and maintain a Public Trust (Level 3) security clearance.
Preferred Experience & Skills
- Prior experience performing general maintenance in a federal government facility, commercial office building, or similar institutional setting
- Familiarity with safety protocols and the ability to identify when a hazardous condition or complex repair requires escalation to a licensed tradesperson or supervisor
Required Education
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification (required)
Preferred Education
- Vocational or technical training in plumbing, electrical systems, carpentry, or a related maintenance trade
- Additional safety certifications or training relevant to general facility maintenance
