The General Manageris responsible forthe daily operations of an individual property, and is also accountable for the financial performance, physicalconditionand work atmosphere of the property. General Managers are charged with the primary duty of managing andoperatingtheir propertytoprovide asafe, clean environment for both guests and employees. The General Manageris responsible forensuring that the property adheres to corporate financial and operational procedures and ensuresa high levelof quality and guest satisfaction. Salesmanship and knowledge of the local competitive landscape are critical to success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Recruit,interviewand hire all property staff
Training,developmentand support of property staff
Responsible for office operations, including checking-in and checking out guests, control of all money, and bookkeeping and payroll functions
Ensure and provide excellent guest service
Developexpertiseon computer operating system
Identifyand manage repair and maintenance issues
Identifycapital expenditure needs
Assistwith completion of capital expenditure projects
Identifyand follow up on life/safety issues and inspection issues
Notify Supervisor of any guest concerns
Maximize financial performance through revenue management and pricing recommendations
Meet budgets through P&L analysis and effective cost and inventory control
Assistsin preparation of annual budgets
Monitor competitors for their market
Drive sales through local marketing
Develop andmaintainpositive relationships will all local governmental authorities
Assistin recruitment and training of other General Managers
Essential Qualifications:
Possess a valid driver’s license, current autoinsuranceand a functioning automobile.
Read, speak,writeand understand the English language to interact with guests, staff, handle administrative duties, etc.
Ability to read, understandandinterpretinformation found in a variety of reports and other internal hotel information.
Sufficient mathematical skills to prepare forecasts and reports, calculate room revenue, average rate, occupancy percentage and labor costs, count and balance a cash bank, etc.
General computerproficiency.
Possess thorough knowledge of Front Office and related department operations, service standards and techniques, guest relations and etiquette, up selling techniques, to ensure the effective operation of the front office and related departments (examples include providing high level of service, effective staff training, proficient problem solving, effective cost controls, etc.).
Possess the knowledge and ability to perform a variety of front office and related positions in response to business conditions.
Ability to compose and express thoughts in a clear and understandable way to ensure effective communication.
Ability and flexibility to work long hours on a regular basis and as business conditions demand.
Ability to manage multipleactivities oftenin stressful situations.
Ability to organize oneself, one’s work and the efforts of others.
Ability to make effectivejudgmentson allfacetsof front office operations and staff, and the ability to effectively solve guest and operational problems.
Preferred Skills/Credentials/Experience/Education:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge,skillsand abilities. High school diploma preferred but not.
Minimum3 years’ experience in management. Supervisory experience. Experience levelsmight vary based upon the size,volumeand character of company
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Indoor work with hard and carpeted surfaces
Standing for up to eight (8) hour shifts
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
This position is occasionallyto sit,climb,balance,stoop, kneel,crouchor crawl.
The employee mustfrequentlylift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depthperceptionand ability to adjust focus.
Extensive use of hands and fingers for manipulation of keyboard, answering phone calls, calculator, copy machine, computerprinterand other office productivity machinery
May be exposed to extreme weather conditions, cold, heat, rain if at an exterior property
Use ofcomputerterminal, which requires extensive eye contact with a video display terminal.
The person in this positionfrequentlycommunicates with employees/vendors.Mustbe able to exchangeaccurateinformation in these situations.
Extensive use of hands and fingers for manipulation of keyboard, answering phone calls (100% of the time).
Travel to other properties within the market and to the bank.
