General Manager

Big C Lumber is a family-owned company that has been serving customers and communities for over 100 years. We are looking for a motivated, customer-focused General Manager to lead one of our retail locations. This position is responsible for overseeing daily operations, developing employees, driving sales and profitability, and ensuring an exceptional customer experience while maintaining our commitment to safety.

What You’ll Do

As General Manager, you will:

• Lead all daily store operations with safety as the top priority.
• Build, coach, and develop a high-performing team.
• Recruit, hire, and retain quality employees.
• Drive sales growth and achieve profitability goals.
• Deliver outstanding customer service and resolve customer concerns.
• Oversee merchandising, inventory management, and marketing initiatives.
• Ensure company policies and procedures are consistently followed.
• Coordinate with other Big C Lumber locations to meet customer needs.
• Protect company assets and maintain a safe, secure workplace.
• Foster strong relationships with employees, customers, vendors, and corporate leadership.
• Promote the positive image and values of Big C Lumber.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of management experience, preferably in the building materials or lumber industry.
• Strong leadership and team development skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Customer-focused with outstanding problem-solving skills.
• Basic knowledge of building materials and construction products.
• Ability to read blueprints and understand material takeoffs is preferred.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Schedule

• Full-time, salaried exempt position
• Typical hours are between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM
• Occasional weekends and overnight travel as business needs require
• Store is open until noon on Saturdays during the summer
