1880 Train is seeking a dynamic and experienced hospitality leader to serve as General Manager for one of the Black Hills' most iconic guest attractions. This position plays a key leadership role in overseeing train operations, onboard hospitality, guest services, and team development while helping create memorable experiences for thousands of visitors each season.

The General Manager will lead train crew and hospitality teams, oversee ticketing and marketing strategies, and drive operational excellence with a strong focus on guest satisfaction, revenue growth, and team engagement. This individual will help shape the overall guest journey while preserving the charm, history, and reputation that make the 1880 Train a beloved destination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Foster an exceptional guest experience by maintaining high customer satisfaction standards through team training, quality assurance initiatives, and guest feedback analysis.
  • Lead daily operations across train crew, hospitality, retail, food & beverage, and special event functions.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, with a focus on maximizing profitability while maintaining operational efficiency and cost control.
  • Direct onboard hospitality programs, including food and beverage service, themed excursions, private charters, and seasonal event experiences.
  • Partner with leadership teams to support strategic marketing, ticketing optimization, and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Build, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team culture focused on safety, service, professionalism, and memorable guest interactions.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between departments while maintaining compliance with operational and safety standards.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 5-7 years of progressive leadership experience in tourism, hospitality, entertainment, attractions, or a related guest-focused industry.
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-department or multi-unit operations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • A passion for hospitality and creating meaningful guest experiences.
  • Experience leading teams in fast-paced, seasonal, or high-volume environments preferred.
