The General Manager is a business partner accountable for leading a single Restaurant Management and Associate team to deliver Steak 'n Shake operational and financial standards on all shifts. The General Manager has overall responsibility for assessing Management and Associate performance to identify opportunities for development and coach for improvement. This position has primary accountability for the delivery and implementation of all Steak 'n Shake procedures, policies and specifications which deliver the Steak 'n Shake Vision and Mission. The General Manager will partner directly with his/her Division President and will receive market level support from his/her Human Resource Manager and Field Training Manager / Coordinator to meet the business and strategic objectives of the organization.
Responsibilities:
Create an environment of sales growth through guest focus and delivery of Steak 'n Shake procedures and policies
Identify, Train and Develop Trainers, Shift Managers, Managers and Restaurant Managers
Develop, Focus and Motivate the Management team to consistently deliver the Steak 'n Shake objectives; Delighting Guests, Eliminating Unnecessary costs, Increasing quality, and Reducing Prices
Train, Coach and Inspire Associates to deliver exceptional service, food and environment to the Guest
Lead Restaurant team to deliver on key metrics and financial expectations (Field Results Report)
Manage all restaurant costs to deliver positive cash flow
Maintain strict compliance with food, health, safety and security standards and procedures
Create a safe environment free of harassment
Deliver best in class Gold Standard service

Steak ‘n Shake was founded in February, 1934 in Normal, Illinois. Gus Belt, Steak ‘n Shake’s founder, pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milk shakes.
For over 80 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word “steak” stood for STEAKBURGER. The term “shake” stood for hand-dipped MILK SHAKES. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. To prove his point that his burgers were exceptionally prime, he would wheel in a barrel of steaks (including round, sirloin, and T-bones) and grind the meat into burgers right in front of the guests. Hence arose the origin of our famous slogan, “In Sight It Must Be Right.”
After 80 years, we are continuing Steak n Shake’s tradition of serving the country’s best, freshest, and tastiest burgers and shakes.
