Miss J’s Diner is seeking a hands-on, motivated, and experienced General Manager to lead the overall operations of our beloved neighborhood diner. As the General Manager, you will be responsible for delivering an outstanding guest experience, managing daily operations, leading and developing staff, maintaining high standards of food quality and service, and ensuring financial performance aligns with goals. We’re looking for someone who loves hospitality, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and brings leadership with heart.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Oversight
Supervise and coordinate all front- and back-of-house operations
Ensure food quality, speed of service, and cleanliness meet diner standards
Manage vendor relationships and oversee food and supply ordering
Maintain compliance with health, safety, and labor regulations
Team Leadership
Hire, train, and manage a diverse team of servers, cooks, hosts, and support staff
Create weekly staff schedules based on business needs
Foster a positive, respectful work environment and resolve staff issues promptly
Provide regular coaching, feedback, and performance reviews
Customer Experience
Set the tone for warm, friendly service and ensure guest satisfaction
Respond professionally to guest concerns, feedback, and complaints
Maintain a welcoming and community-oriented atmosphere
Financial Management
Oversee daily cash handling, deposits, and financial reporting
Monitor labor and food costs and implement cost-control strategies
Track sales, manage budgets, and drive revenue through consistent performance
Marketing & Community Engagement
Support local marketing efforts and seasonal promotions
Represent Miss J’s Diner at community events or in local partnerships
Collaborate with ownership to bring new ideas and improvements to the diner
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in restaurant or diner management (front and/or back of house)
Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead by example
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Experience with inventory management, scheduling, and POS systems
Customer-first mindset with a passion for great food and friendly service
ServSafe Manager certification or ability to obtain
Must be available to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
