This role is responsible for establishing and enforcing field execution standards related to safety, quality, productivity, and schedule performance. The General Superintendent directly oversees all Superintendents and serves as the primary field operations partner to the VP of Operations and Project Management team, ensuring consistent, disciplined project delivery.\n \nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\n\n Provide direct leadership, oversight, and accountability for all Superintendents and field personnel\n \n Establish, communicate, and enforce company-wide field operations standards, procedures, and best practices\n \n Ensure all projects are executed in accordance with approved schedules, budgets, and construction plans\n \n Lead field planning efforts, including site logistics, work sequencing, manpower planning, and weekly look-ahead schedules\n \n Partner with Project Managers to align field execution with project cost, schedule, and contract requirements\n \n Serve as the primary escalation point for field-related issues, conflicts, or performance concerns\n \n Drive field productivity by setting clear expectations and holding Superintendents accountable for crew performance\n \n Oversee implementation of safety programs in coordination with the Safety Coordinator, ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements\n \n Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, safety performance, quality, and adherence to plans and specifications\n \n Participate in hiring, evaluating, coaching, and, when necessary, recommending disciplinary action or termination of field personnel\n \n Lead training and development of Superintendents and Foremen to improve leadership capability and execution consistency\n \n Ensure proper coordination between subcontractors, vendors, inspectors, and internal teams\n \n Support project start-up, turnover, and closeout activities from a field operations perspective\n \n Promote a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement within field operations\n \n Perform other field leadership duties as assigned by the VP of Operations or Owner\n \nQualifications\n\n Minimum of 10\u201315 years of experience in construction field operations, preferably in industrial or heavy commercial construction\n \n Proven experience leading Superintendents or large, multi-discipline field teams\n \n Strong understanding of construction means and methods, sequencing, and productivity drivers\n \n Demonstrated ability to enforce standards, address underperformance, and lead difficult conversations\n \n Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and contracts\n \n Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills\n \n Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, safety personnel, and executive leadership\n \nRequired Certifications and Training\n\n OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification (required)\n \n CPR / First Aid certification (required or obtainable upon hire)\n \n Company-specific safety orientation and leadership training\n \n Additional supervisory or leadership training preferred\n \nTools & Technology\n\n Proficiency with basic computer applications (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel)\n \n Experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, or similar) preferred\n \n Ability to review and utilize digital schedules, reports, and project documentation\n \n Company-provided communication devices and technology for field coordination\n \nExperience\n\n Typically 10\u201315+ years of progressive field experience in construction\n \n Prior experience as a Superintendent on complex or large-scale projects\n \n Demonstrated track record of successfully managing multiple projects or work fronts simultaneously\n \n Experience mentoring and developing field leadership personnel\n \nPhysical Requirements\n\n Frequent presence on active construction sites\n \n Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb ladders and stairs, and work in varying weather conditions\n \n Ability to stand, bend, and move throughout the workday\n \n Must wear required PPE (hard hat, safety glasses, safety vest, steel-toe boots, and other site-specific PPE)\n \nWork Environment\n\n Primarily field-based with time spent visiting multiple project sites\n \n Exposure to typical construction hazards, including heavy equipment, noise, dust, and varying weather conditions\n \n Work hours may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, or extended hours based on project demands \n \nSupervision\n\n Reports directly to the Vice President of Operations\n \n Provides direct supervision to all Superintendents and field personnel\n \n Works closely with Project Managers, Safety Coordinator, and Estimating/Preconstruction staff\n \nSafety Expectations\n\n Actively lead and support the company's safety culture\n \n Ensure compliance with all company, client, and regulatory safety policies\n \n Participate in and lead safety meetings, site orientations, and incident reviews\n \n Empower Superintendents and Foremen to identify hazards and stop work when unsafe conditions exist\n \nMarketSpecific Execution Requirements \u2013 Water/Wastewater\n \nWhen assigned to water or wastewater projects, the General Superintendent supports field execution with heightened attention to processdriven construction and regulatory compliance. These requirements supplement\u2014but do not alter\u2014the core responsibilities and authority of the role.\n\n Process Sensitivity: Ensure site teams plan and execute work in accordance with process sequences (e.g., basins, clarifiers, aeration, disinfection, lift stations) to protect operational continuity and avoid contamination or service interruption.\n Regulatory Awareness: Reinforce compliance with applicable permits and environmental controls, including erosion/sediment control, dewatering discharge management, and containment plans as specified by the contract and authorities having jurisdiction.\n TieIns & Shutdowns: Establish standards for planning highrisk shutdowns and tieins, including isolation verification, lockout/tagout coordination, contingency plans, and communication protocols with owner operations.\n Commissioning & Startup Readiness (Field): Hold Superintendents accountable for physical readiness of systems for testing and startup (access, cleanliness, labeling, flushing, leak testing coordination, and safety controls). Commercial management of testing scope remains with the Project Manager.\n Multiphase Turnover: Standardize turnover packaging (asbuilt documentation from the field, redlines, prefunctional checks) to support phased commissioning and partial owner acceptance.\n Trade Coordination: Ensure Mechanical and Electrical Trade Superintendents align installation, terminations, instrument calibration access, and power availability to the agreed sequence and commissioning milestones.\n Inspector & Operator Interface (Field): Support a professional onsite interface with inspectors and plant operators for field readiness checks, while deferring commercial or contractual questions to the Project Manager.\n \nCareer Progression\n \nSuccessful performance in this role may lead to expanded operational leadership responsibilities, including Director of Field Operations or Vice President of Construction, as the company grows.\n \nBenefits:\n\n IRA\n IRA matching up to 3%\n Health insurance\n Paid time off\n Paid Holidays\n Company Vehicle\n* Per Diem $125 a day if staying out of town\n\n
