Generalist, Human Resources PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Generalist, Human Resources (HRG) administers the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department while serving as a strategic partner to employees, managers, and organizational leadership. The HRG supports the full employee lifecycle through talent acquisition, onboarding, payroll support, benefits administration, employee relations, performance management, HR communications, compliance, and HRIS administration. In collaboration with the AVP, Human Resources, the HRG leads employee experience, engagement, learning, and development initiatives that foster an inclusive, high-performing workplace and advance UWSM's mission and strategic priorities. Serves as internal HR resource and support in employment practices & benefits administration in collaboration with AVP, HR, and Chief of Staff. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Human Resources
- Manage full-cycle recruitment, including job postings, interviews, and selection in collaboration with hiring managers; conduct background checks and employment verifications.
- Oversee intern programs (Stark State, JOGS), acting as supervisor and point of contact.
- Coordinate onboarding, orientation, stay interviews, and 90-day reviews.
- Support bi-weekly payroll processing and ensure accurate HRIS data entry and maintenance (Paycor).
- Administer benefits, leave of absences, unemployment claims, and employee files in compliance with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Address employee relations concerns, assist in investigations, and guide disciplinary and performance processes.
- Track and report HR metrics through the HR Dashboard for senior leadership and the Board.
- Monitor and maintain compliance with employment regulations and HR best practices.
- Develop and coordinate HR communications that educate employees on policies, benefits, organizational initiatives, and development opportunities.
- Partner with departments to promote inclusion and equity throughout hiring, development, and recognition efforts.
- Partner with managers by providing guidance, resources, and coaching on employee relations, performance management, and leadership best practices.
- Lead and support strategic HR initiatives that improve organizational effectiveness, employee engagement, leadership development, and overall employee experience.
- Support day-to-day office and administrative operations, including coordinating office supplies, vendor relationships, mail processing, document preparation, and other operational needs that contribute to an efficient workplace.
Employee Experience & Development
- Lead employee engagement, recognition, wellness, and culture initiatives that enhance the employee experience.
- Coordinate learning and professional development opportunities, including Lunch & Learns, leadership development sessions, manager training, and organizational education initiatives.
- Assist with developing and facilitating employee and leadership training, presentations, and workshops.
- Administer employee surveys, stay interviews, and other feedback mechanisms; analyze trends and recommend improvements.
- Support organizational change initiatives and HR communications that reinforce UWSM's culture and values.
- Partner in planning and supporting employee engagement activities, organizational events, and other internal initiatives that promote collaboration and a positive workplace culture.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
- At least 1-3 years of HR experience preferred.
- HR experience in a not-for-profit or community service context is a plus.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification or desire to obtain certification is a plus.
- Relevant experience in all aspects of human resources (recruiting, benefits, training, HRIS, payroll, employee relations).
- Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS system (Paycor).
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Competent in MS Office products.
- Experience coordinating and/or facilitating employee engagement, professional development, or organizational learning initiatives preferred.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to pass pre-employment testing, including background and driving check, drug and alcohol screen.
- Valid driver license and proof of insurance. Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit & Medina County area.
- Position is primarily a normal office setting, requiring long periods of sedentary work at a desk and computer.
- The role requires a significant on-site presence in order to support daily HR needs.
- Ability to routinely travel throughout multi-floor office utilizing stairs or elevator.
- Minimal lifting up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Valid driver license and proof of insurance. Access to reliable insured automobile to be used for work-related travel in Summit & Medina County area.
- 5% of Travel - potential for overnight travel for training or other activities.
