GENERATOR MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN AND GARAGE MECHANIC

SUMMARY: Responsible for the scheduled preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs of standby commercial, industrial, and residential power generation equipment. Ensure the continuous reliability of emergency power systems. Other Garage Mechanic duties include completing service calls as directed by the Garage Supervisor. Maintain accurate records to ensure the most efficient work is provided.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execute preventative maintenance per manufacturer standards, including oil/filter changes, fluid sampling, and cooling system checks.
  • Able to perform General PM Service on vehicles, farm machinery, heavy equipment, irrigation equipment, small engines, etc.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues on diesel and natural gas engines.
  • Replace or rebuild faulty parts and components, including fuel systems, voltage regulators, and transfer switches.
  • Be in compliance and document detailed service reports, log work hours, and document maintenance activities.
  • Ability to communicate well with a diverse group of people such as (MFV employees, vendors, and contractors.)
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24/7 emergency repair and call-back service.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics, electrical engineering, or related fields highly preferred.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of generators or heavy-duty industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in reading wiring schematics, technical manuals and using multimeter and diagnostic software.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Mechanics shall provide their own general-purpose tools such as (wrenches, sockets, screw drivers, pliers, hammers, punches, chisels, test lights, voltage/amp meters, and toolboxes.) The company will provide specialty tools as needed and approved by Department Manager.
  • Keep accurate notes, records, and paperwork for all service calls, ordered parts, and supplies daily.
  • Willing to learn all aspects of gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Good attitude/willing to be part of a team and take pride in quality of work.
  • Work outside through all seasons.
  • Work schedule includes early start; often days are longer than 8 hours (as required to complete task); there is an on-call schedule.
  • Perform other duties as defined by supervisor.
  • Valid Driver''s License in good standing.
