    Purpose:

    Plan

    provide

    therapy

    to

    students

    with

    mental,

    physical,

    or

    emotional

    disabilities.

    Provide

    therapeutic

    intervention

    to

    maximize

    physical

    or

    mental

    functioning,

    increase

    independent

    functioning,

    and/or

    adjust

    to

    disabilities.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    Master's

    degree

    in

    occupational

    therapy

    or

    related

    program

    Valid

    Texas

    license

    as

    an

    occupational

    therapist

    granted

    by

    the

    Texas

    Board

    of

    Occupational

    Therapy

    Examiners

    (TBOTE)

    Experience:

    Minimum

    of

    one

    (1)

    year

    of

    experience

    as

    an

    occupational

    therapist

    preferred

    Some

    school-based

    or

    clinical

    pediatric

    OT

    experience

    or

    OT

    fieldwork

    in

    a

    school

    setting

    preferred

    Some

    experience

    with

    pediatric

    assessment

    used

    to

    evaluate

    fine

    motor,

    visual

    perception,

    visual

    motor,

    self-help,

    handwriting,

    and

    sensory

    processing

    skills,

    preferred

    Special

    Knowledge/Skills:

    Knowledge

    of

    rehabilitation

    procedures,

    activities,

    and

    equipment

    used

    occupational

    therapy

    Major

    Responsibilities

    and

    Duties:

    Therapy

    1.

    Plan

    and

    provide

    direct

    and

    consultative

    services

    consistent

    with

    occupational

    therapy

    goals

    contained

    in

    students'

    Individual

    Education

    Plans

    (IEPs).

    2.

    Evaluate

    student

    progress

    and

    make

    recommendations

    regarding

    occupational

    therapy

    services.

    3.

    Design,

    construct,

    alter,

    and

    provide

    students

    with

    adaptive

    equipment

    and

    devices

    to

    promote

    maximum

    independence.

    4.

    Assess

    students

    with

    disabilities

    and

    determine

    eligibility

    for

    services.

    Consultation

    5.

    Present

    staff

    development

    in

    assigned

    school

    as

    requested.

    Conduct

    one-on-one

    consultations

    with

    teachers,

    parents,

    and

    others

    to

    assist

    with

    selecting

    and

    using

    adaptive

    equipment

    and

    materials

    that

    will

    enhance

    student

    learning.

    Student

    Management

    6.

    Create

    an

    environment

    conducive

    to

    learning

    and

    appropriate

    for

    the

    maturity

    level,

    interests,

    and

    needs

    of

    the

    student.

    7.

    Establish

    control

    and

    administer

    discipline

    according

    to

    the

    Student

    Code

    of

    Conduct

    and

    student

    handbook.

    Program

    Management

    8.

    Participate

    in

    the

    Admission,

    Review,

    and

    Dismissal

    (ARD)

    Committee

    to

    assist

    with

    the

    interpretation

    of

    assessment

    data,

    appropriate

    placement,

    and

    goal

    setting

    for

    students

    according

    to

    district

    procedures.

    9.

    Develop

    and

    coordinate

    a

    continuing

    evaluation

    of

    the

    occupational

    therapy

    program

    and

    implement

    changes

    based

    on

    the

    findings.

    Administration

    10.

    Compile,

    maintain,

    and

    file

    all

    physical

    and

    computerized

    reports,

    records,

    and

    other

    documents

    required,

    including

    information

    required

    for

    Medicaid

    documentation

    and

    billing.

    11.

    Comply

    with

    policies

    established

    by

    federal

    and

    state

    law,

    State

    Board

    of

    Education

    rules,

    and

    local

    board

    policy.

    12.

    Comply

    with

    all

    district

    and

    campus

    routines

    and

    regulations.

    13.

    Follow

    district

    safety

    protocols

    and

    emergency

    procedures.

    Other

    Provide

    and

    document

    instructional

    and

    related

    services

    contained

    in

    student

    IEPs,

    including

    Personal

    Care

    Services

    (PCS).

    15.

    Train

    service

    providers

    in

    personal

    care

    services

    activities

    within

    their

    scope

    of

    practice

    and

    submit

    documentation

    of

    verified

    competency.

    16.

    Perform

    all

    duties

    as

    assigned.
