Genomics Technician
Overview
Location: Chicago, IL 60613 | Onsite
Pay: $41.91/hour
Hours: Monday Friday | 8:00 AM 5:00 PM | Overtime is rare but may be required based on research needsOverview
Seeking a Genomics Technician to support Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) operations within a genomics research facility. This position is involved in NGS sample intake, quality control, sample processing, and sequencing operations using advanced genomics technologies. The Technician will also provide research, administrative, and laboratory support based on project needs.
Required Skills
- College or university degree in a related field.
- Less than 2 years of related work experience required.
- Strong attention to detail and sense of ownership over assigned work.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and facility clients.
- Ability to perform laboratory-based tasks for extended periods.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
Additional Requirements/Duties
- Perform NGS sample intake, quality control, and sample processing.
- Operate sample QC equipment, including fragment analyzers, bio-analyzers, Qubit, and qPCR instruments.
- Operate sequencing equipment, including Illumina NovaSeq and Element AVITI platforms.
- Operate additional genomics platforms as directed.
- Process new projects and communicate with facility clients regarding submitted work.
- Maintain technical and administrative support for research projects.
- Analyze and maintain research data and specimens.
- Assist with literature reviews and preparation of reports, manuscripts, and other documentation.
- Install, set up, and perform experiments.
- Work with students and laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
- Provide supplementary support to other facility teams as workload requires.
- Support genomics technologies including Next-Generation Sequencing, single-cell genomics, microarrays, Sanger sequencing, and nucleic acid sample QC and processing.
Preferred Skills
- 3 6 months of prior experience in a genomics research laboratory setting.
