Job Summary

This position is ideal for a recent geology graduate or early-career professional with a passion for data organization and geoscience. The Geoscience Data Technician will play a key role in managing upstream exploration and production (E&P) data, assisting geologists and geophysicists by organizing, maintaining, and optimizing geoscience datasets. These include geological mapping projects, well logs, core analysis, drilling and production data, and other subsurface information. The goal is to maintain accurate, high-quality geological databases and projects that empower our teams with reliable data for hydrocarbon discovery and risk assessment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Management: Oversee the intake, indexing, quality control (QC), and archival of geological and geophysical (G&G) data from acquisition through interpretation.
  • Database Administration: Manage and maintain subsurface databases, geological projects, and workspaces (with emphasis on Kingdom Suite; familiarity with GeoGraphix a plus). Ensure data migration, backups, and recovery procedures are robust.
  • Data QC and Integrity: Verify spatial and attribute data, including coordinate reference systems (CRS), navigation data, and well headers.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Collaborate with geologists, geophysicists, petro-physicists, and reservoir engineers to support daily workflows, prospect generation, and map-making activities.
  • Data Standards & Governance: Help develop and document G&G data policies and best practices, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Regulatory Support: Assist in preparing exhibits for hearings before oil and gas commissions (e.g., TRRC or relevant agencies).

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, GIS, Earth Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-10 years of relevant experience preferred. Recent graduates with strong foundational skills, innate curiosity, and eagerness to learn are also encouraged to apply.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Familiarity with Kingdom Suite or similar geological software is a plus.
  • Experience with map-making, GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS), and data visualization.
  • Proficiency in database management and data handling (e.g., SQL queries, data loading of well and 2D/3D seismic data in formats like LAS, SEG-P, SEG-Y).
  • Foundational understanding of Python or scripting for automation is highly desirable.
  • AI Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools (such as large language models, data analysis assistants) to streamline complex tasks, automate workflows, and enhance productivity.
