You'll also build your own future, with exciting opportunities for development and advancement.Job Description Stantec is seeking dynamic and creative candidates to join our US West Geotechnical Team as an Intermediate Level Civil or Geotechnical Engineer. The candidate will be responsible for carrying out geotechnical engineering activities across the full mining life cycle (conceptual to closure) for mining operations and facilities (i.e., tailings storage facilities, waste rock management structures, etc.). Provide geotechnical advice, analyses, designs, and plans; ensuring that the best data is utilized in all geotechnical analyses. Provide core geotechnical design skills; numerical modelling capability; geotechnical monitoring and data analysis capability; and dam safety management and stewardship.The Intermediate Level Civil or Geotechnical Engineer will join a team of about 30 geotechnical engineers across our western regional offices. This position will require a passionate and organized individual who can interface and develop relationships with our mining clients; develop and lead teams; develop project scopes budgets and schedules; develop and lead site investigations and characterization; develop detailed designs; execute and review calculations; prepare expertly written reports; and serve as Deputy Engineer of Record (EoR) to be transitioned into the EoR role. This position interacts throughout the organization internally and externally with clients and members of business and professional organizations. An ideal candidate will have a broad range of experience in planning, design, and construction phase services. Domestic and international travel may be required.Your Key ResponsibilitiesContribute to an innovative and collaborative work environment where creativity is valued and encouraged.Supervise and mentor junior Geotechnical staff members and support hiring new talents.Responsible for carrying out geotechnical engineering activities across the full mining life cycle (conceptual to closure) for open pit mining operations.Serve as Deputy EoR and be willing to transition into EoR role in future.Lead and present to the third-party reviewer boards such as Independent Tailings Review Board (ITRB).Share knowledge with the team and support junior team members career growth.Provide geotechnical advice, analyses, designs, and plans.Follow safe work practices and adhering to company and client guidelines and policies for planning and executing work in a safe manner.Prepare technical memoranda and detailed reports pertaining to field investigations and design studies.Develop, oversee, and review civil/geotechnical field and laboratory testing investigations; primarily focused on mining and mine-waste projects such as tailing storage facilities.Lead projects and small teams of people to complete work on time and on budget and provide technical leadership and review.Develop proposals and support other Marketing and Business Development tasks.Develop client relationships.Qualifications QualificationsYour Capabilities and CredentialsExceptional technical writing skills, organizational skills, technical leadership abilities, oral communication skills, and attention to detail.Experience with mine waste/tailing management design or mine closure/reclamation designs.Experience with seepage, slope stability and deformation analyses and supporting modeling software (such as GeoStudio, RocScience, FLAC).Experience with material balance models such as Muk3D.Ability to work independently and make decisions in the office and in the field at remote sites.Ability to lead and mentor younger professionals.Education and ExperienceMinimum of a B.S. in Civil Engineering with preference given to advanced degrees.7+ years of experience working on civil and/or geotechnical engineering projects, focusing on design, site investigation, reporting and business development on tailings and mine waste projects.Existing professional registration (P.E.) or ability to obtain within 3-6 months of starting work.This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee and other duties, responsibilities and activities may be assigned or may be changed at any time with or without notice.Stantec is a place where the best and brightest come to build on each other's talents, do exciting work, and make an impact on the world around us. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
