We are seeking Gheg Albanian Over-the-Phone Interpreters (OPI) to support our USCIS contract. Gheg is the northern dialect of Albanian, spoken in northern Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Serbia, and diaspora communities, and is often required in asylum and immigration cases.
Responsibilities
Provide real-time Gheg Albanian English telephonic interpretation for USCIS interviews, hearings, and asylum proceedings.
Interpret with accuracy, impartiality, and professionalism in sensitive immigration and legal contexts.
Maintain confidentiality under USCIS/DHS interpreter standards.
Manage both scheduled assignments and urgent/surge requests.
Participate in training, compliance refreshers, and quality assurance reviews.
Qualifications
Native or near-native fluency in Gheg Albanian and English (knowledge of Standard Albanian/Tosk is a plus).
2+ years of professional interpreting experience (immigration, asylum, NGO, legal, medical, or government preferred).
Strong cultural knowledge of Balkan and Albanian-speaking communities.
Familiarity with interpreter ethics, confidentiality, and neutrality standards.
Must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident eligible for Tier 3/Tier 5 clearance.
