Position Summary
The Gifted & Talented / ESL Teacher is responsible for providing instructional support and services for students identified as Gifted and Talented (GT) and students qualifying for English as a Second Language (ESL) services in grades K-12. The teacher develops and implements differentiated and specialized instruction designed to meet the academic, linguistic, social, and emotional needs of diverse learners in accordance with Arkansas Department of Education regulations and district policies.
The teacher collaborates with classroom teachers, administrators, counselors, and families to ensure equitable access to rigorous instruction and support services for all identified students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Gifted & Talented Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver differentiated instruction aligned to Arkansas Academic Standards and district curriculum.
- Develop enrichment, acceleration, and extension opportunities for gifted learners.
- Design instructional experiences that promote critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and independent learning.
- Participate in identification, referral, screening, and placement processes for GT students.
- Maintain compliance with Arkansas Gifted and Talented Program Approval Standards.
- Support classroom teachers with differentiation strategies and enrichment techniques.
- Monitor and document student progress and maintain accurate records.
- Coordinate enrichment activities, academic competitions, and special projects.
ESL Responsibilities
- Provide English language development instruction for identified English Learners (ELs).
- Assist students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language acquisition in the general education setting.
- Administer and maintain required ESL documentation, assessments, and progress monitoring.
- Assist with compliance requirements related to state and federal ESL regulations.
- Communicate effectively with families of English Learners regarding student progress and services.
- Support culturally responsive instructional practices across the district.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support academic success for GT and ESL students including accelerated learning in the district
- Participate in professional learning communities, meetings, and required trainings.
- Provide professional development and instructional support related to gifted education, differentiation, and language acquisition strategies.
- Maintain positive communication with students, parents, staff, and community stakeholders.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information.
- Remain current on best practices in gifted education, ESL instruction, and differentiated learning.
- Utilize instructional technology effectively.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Required
- Valid Arkansas Teaching License.
- Arkansas Gifted & Talented Endorsement or willingness to obtain within district-approved timeline.
- Arkansas ESL Endorsement or willingness to obtain within district-approved timeline.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies for gifted learners and English Learners.
- Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Gifted Education, ESL, Curriculum & Instruction, or related field.
- Previous experience serving gifted students and/or English Learners.
- Experience with differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Arkansas GT and ESL program requirements.
- Ability to analyze student data and provide targeted instructional support.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and families.
- Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work across multiple grade levels and student needs.
Physical Demands
- Regular standing, walking, speaking, hearing, and lifting up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to supervise students in instructional and extracurricular settings.
Terms of Employment
Salary and benefits shall be according to the district salary schedule and board policies.
