Job Title: Gifted Educator/Interventionist Reports To: Principal and Director of Exceptional Education FLSA Status: Exempt

The Gifted Educator/Interventionist provides specialized instruction for identified gifted students while supporting the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) through targeted academic intervention. This educator designs and delivers rigorous enrichment opportunities that challenge advanced learners while providing evidence-based intervention for students requiring acceleration and additional academic support.

In addition, the Gifted Educator/Interventionist serves as the district's Gifted Child Find Coordinator, overseeing the identification, referral, assessment, eligibility, and compliance processes in accordance with Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) Gifted Education regulations.

The successful candidate serves as an instructional leader who promotes equitable access to gifted services, collaborates with teachers to differentiate instruction, and supports continuous academic growth for all students.

Gifted Education, Child Find, and Assessment

• Provide direct instruction to identified gifted students using Alabama Gifted Education Program standards and ALSDE guidelines.
• Design and implement differentiated, inquiry-based learning experiences that promote creativity, innovation, critical thinking, research, leadership, and problem solving.
• Deliver enrichment opportunities that extend grade-level curriculum through advanced content, curriculum compacting, acceleration, and project-based learning.
• Monitor student growth and adjust instruction to meet individual student needs.
• Maintain and annually review each student's Gifted Education Plan (GEP).
• Monitor student progress toward GEP goals and communicate progress with families.

• Coordinate and implement the district's annual Gifted Child Find Plan in compliance with Alabama Administrative Code and ALSDE requirements.
• Conduct ongoing Child Find activities to ensure equitable identification of gifted learners across all student populations.
• Promote awareness of gifted education services among staff, families, and the community.
• Collaborate with teachers to identify students demonstrating gifted characteristics through classroom performance, observations, work samples, assessment data, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ensure equitable identification practices for underrepresented student populations, including economically disadvantaged students, English Learners, culturally diverse students, and twice-exceptional (2e) students.
• Maintain annual Child Find timelines and ensure compliance with all required procedures.

• Coordinate the district's gifted referral process for students.
• Accept and review referrals submitted by educators, parents, guardians, students, or community members.
• Collect and analyze multiple eligibility measures including achievement, aptitude, creativity, motivation, classroom performance, work samples, and teacher input.
• Coordinate and administer gifted screening instruments.
• Schedule and coordinate cognitive assessments with qualified school psychologists or certified evaluators.
• Ensure all assessments are administered in accordance with ALSDE procedures and ethical testing practices.
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all assessment materials and student records.
• Organize and maintain complete gifted eligibility files and assessment documentation.

• Prepare eligibility documentation for the Gifted Eligibility Determination Committee.
• Participate in eligibility committee meetings by presenting assessment data and recommendations.
• Notify parents of eligibility decisions and explain available gifted services.
• Maintain accurate service logs, eligibility documentation, GEPs, assessment files, and required reports.
• Coordinate district gifted monitoring visits, audits, and state reporting requirements.
• Monitor gifted program enrollment and demographics to ensure equitable access and compliance.
• Assist school leadership in evaluating and improving the district's gifted education program.

Academic Intervention

• Provide evidence-based intervention to students identified through MTSS, universal screeners, diagnostic assessments, and classroom data.
• Deliver targeted small-group instruction in reading and/or mathematics.
• Utilize research-based intervention programs to address identified learning gaps.
• Progress monitor intervention students and maintain accurate documentation.
• Analyze student performance data to determine intervention effectiveness.
• Recommend adjustments to intervention intensity and instructional strategies.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop intervention plans and classroom supports.
• Support acceleration efforts for students demonstrating readiness for advanced instruction.

Collaboration and Instructional Support

• Collaborate with teachers to develop differentiated instructional plans for gifted learners and students receiving intervention.
• Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), Data Meetings, MTSS meetings, and Student Support Team meetings.
• Coach teachers on effective differentiation, enrichment, acceleration, intervention strategies, and flexible grouping practices.
• Support implementation of personalized learning and high-quality Tier I instruction.
• Assist teachers in interpreting assessment data to inform instruction.

Assessment and Data Analysis

• Analyze classroom, benchmark, diagnostic, and state assessment data to identify students requiring enrichment or intervention.
• Utilize multiple data sources to monitor student growth and instructional effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate documentation of intervention services and gifted programming.
• Prepare reports for administrators regarding student achievement, intervention outcomes, and gifted program effectiveness.

Family and Community Engagement

• Communicate regularly with parents regarding gifted education services, intervention plans, assessment results, and student progress.
• Conduct parent conferences to review GEPs, intervention plans, and academic growth.
• Educate families regarding Gifted Child Find procedures, referral processes, eligibility criteria, and appeals.
• Provide families with resources to support gifted learners and struggling learners outside the classroom.
• Foster strong partnerships between home and school.

Professional Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality of student records and assessment information.
• Participate in required professional development and maintain current knowledge of best practices in gifted education, intervention, MTSS, literacy, and mathematics.
• Stay current on Alabama Gifted Education regulations and assessment requirements.
• Support school improvement initiatives and district strategic goals.
• Perform additional duties assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama Professional Educator Certificate.
• Alabama Gifted Education Certification or eligibility to obtain certification.
• Minimum of three years of successful classroom teaching experience.
• Knowledge of Alabama Gifted Education regulations.
• Knowledge of MTSS, differentiated instruction, intervention strategies, and assessment practices.
• Strong data analysis, collaboration, communication, and organizational skills.

Preferred

• Master's degree in Gifted Education, Curriculum & Instruction, Reading, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Reading Specialist certification.
• Experience coordinating Gifted Child Find activities.
• Experience administering gifted screening instruments.
• Experience with MTSS and intervention frameworks.
• Training in Science of Reading and mathematics intervention.
• Experience serving twice-exceptional students.
