Police Department | Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) | Full-Time | Onsite | Safety Sensitive

The City of Sandy Springs Police Department is seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled GIS/Criminal Intelligence Analyst to support law enforcement operations through advanced geographic information systems (GIS), crime analysis, and intelligence gathering.

This unique civilian position combines GIS expertise with criminal intelligence analysis to provide actionable information that enhances officer safety, supports investigations, identifies crime trends, and informs strategic decision-making. What You'll Do

As the GIS/Criminal Intelligence Analyst, you will:

  • Develop and analyze GIS datasets to support crime analysis, investigations, and operational planning.
  • Create digital maps, spatial analyses, and cartographic products for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance GIS databases and ArcGIS applications.
  • Perform SQL database analysis and develop custom GIS products.
  • Maintain and support department GIS applications, databases, and web-based mapping resources.
  • Serve as the Police Department's primary liaison with the City's GIS Division.
  • Develop and maintain ArcGIS Online applications, including interactive public safety mapping tools.
  • Perform criminal intelligence analysis to identify trends, patterns, and emerging public safety concerns.
  • Assist with the development of GIS policies, procedures, and technical standards.
  • Support law enforcement operations by providing accurate, timely, and confidential intelligence products.
  • Participate in on-call assignments and work overtime, weekends, or holidays as operational needs require.

Minimum Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or GIS Certification.
  • Three (3) or more years of GIS experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using ESRI ArcGIS and Spatial Analysis tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, technical writing, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex data from multiple sources and communicate findings effectively.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality while working with sensitive criminal justice information.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license with a satisfactory driving history.
  • Ability to successfully complete a comprehensive Police Department background investigation, including a physical examination, drug screening, polygraph examination, and other required pre-employment evaluations.
  • Authorization to legally work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following experience are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Master's degree in GIS or a related field.
  • GIS experience supporting public safety or law enforcement agencies.
  • Experience as a Crime Analyst or Criminal Intelligence Analyst.
  • Experience with Report Management Systems (RMS).
  • Working knowledge of LexisNexis/Accurint, CLEAR, and Crystal Reports.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Python, Crystal Syntax, or other scripting/programming languages.
