Position Overview
SNI Technology is seeking a skilled GIS Developer to support the continued development of a cloud-based mapping and analytics platform used to support critical infrastructure operations, asset management, field activities, and data-driven decision-making.
This opportunity is ideal for a developer who combines hands-on GIS expertise with modern web application development and Microsoft Azure experience. The successful candidate will contribute to an established software platform, enhancing interactive mapping capabilities, spatial-data workflows, and cloud-integrated applications.
This is not simply a traditional software development role involving maps as a visual component. The ideal candidate understands GIS fundamentals, spatial data structures, coordinate systems, and geospatial application behavior, and can apply that knowledge to build reliable, production-ready solutions.
The engagement is expected to run for 12 months, with a strong possibility of extension or the opportunity to transition into a direct subcontracting relationship. The position offers a flexible remote schedule, provided the developer maintains consistent availability, meets project commitments, and delivers quality work.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Application Development
- Build and improve interactive web-mapping features using Azure Maps or comparable geospatial mapping technologies.
- Develop tools for map-layer control, spatial search, filtering, feature selection, measurements, attribute displays, map tips, and geographic navigation.
- Create workflows for linear assets, including route-based navigation, engineering stationing, distance measures, and linear referencing.
- Develop responsive mapping interfaces and mobile-friendly workflows for users working in the field.
- Investigate and resolve issues involving spatial geometry, coordinate transformations, projections, map rendering, data integrity, and application performance.
Full-Stack Development and Azure Integration
- Enhance and maintain applications built with C#, .NET, Blazor, and Microsoft Azure App Service.
- Integrate application functionality with Azure SQL, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, cloud storage, REST APIs, and other enterprise data systems.
- Work within an established codebase to develop, test, troubleshoot, and deliver production-ready enhancements.
- Contribute to application reliability, maintainability, and performance throughout the contract engagement.
Spatial Data Management and Integration
- Work with geospatial formats and datasets, including GeoJSON, KML/KMZ, shapefiles, geodatabases, imagery, and spatial database technologies.
- Support integration with Esri technologies and services, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS REST services.
- Collaborate with GIS specialists, software developers, product stakeholders, and infrastructure teams to translate business and operational needs into practical technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
- At least 4 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong hands-on experience building web GIS or spatial applications using Azure Maps or comparable mapping platforms.
- Solid understanding of GIS principles, including coordinate systems, projections, geometry, spatial analysis, geoprocessing, and spatial databases.
- Strong C#/.NET development skills or demonstrated ability to contribute effectively within an established .NET application environment.
- Experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript for interactive web application development.
- Working experience with Microsoft Azure services, such as App Service, Azure Functions, Storage, Azure SQL, Key Vault, and REST APIs.
- Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server Spatial, or similar spatial database technologies.
- Familiarity with Git, GitHub, and collaborative version-control practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving spatial data, APIs, application architecture, and performance.
- Ability to work independently, ramp up quickly, and deliver results with limited supervision.
- Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting GIS applications in the oil and gas, pipeline, utilities, transportation, or other infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with pipeline mapping, linear referencing, route measures, stationing, and event data.
- Experience developing mobile GIS applications or field-oriented software workflows.
- Exposure to enterprise asset management or work-management platforms such as IBM Maximo or SAP.
- Experience working with aerial imagery, drone data, raster datasets, or cloud-hosted geospatial imagery.
- Knowledge of the Esri ecosystem, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS REST services, Utility Network, or Pipeline Referencing.
- Experience with Blazor component libraries such as DevExpress.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and deployment automation using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or similar tools.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve coding efficiency, testing, troubleshooting, and software delivery.
- Previous success in contract or consulting engagements that require independence, adaptability, and minimal onboarding.
