GIS Intern

Job Description

The City of Saratoga Springs IT Services Department currently has an opening for a GIS Intern. This position is under the specific supervision of the GIS Administrator. This up-to 30-hour-a-week position performs skilled work pertaining to GIS and GPS data collection as it relates to public infrastructure.

Job Responsibilities

• Collect GPS data of existing and new infrastructure , including attributes (e.g. diameter of pipe, type of pipe, type of valve, size of valve, and joint type, etc.) and photos where applicable; infrastructure types include culinary & secondary water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, parks, and street lighting
• Edit and create GIS based data using ArcGIS Desktop.
• Coordinate with City Departments and development contractors to ensure data collection is completed for each project.
• Operates light vehicles such as pickups
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

• Position is for applicant's over 18 years of age.
• Graduation from high school, or GED preferred.
• Previous experience in related fields and able to demonstrate aptitude or ability to be trained and perform above or related duties is preferred.
• Preference might be given to candidates with an associate's degree in pre-engineering, geography, surveying or equivalent.

Certifications Required:

• A valid Utah Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrate the ability to follow City policies and procedures
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of GPS data collection principals and ESRI desktop software
• Ability to maintain records and task lists
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others (i.e. employees, volunteers, and the general public)
• Ability to understand and follow oral instructions

Compensation and Benefits

Salary Range:
The full wage range is as follows, please note hiring will normally occur between the minimum and will not exceed the midpoint.

Minimum - $18.69/hr.
Midpoint - $22.42/hr.
Maximum - $26.16/hr.
