Job Title: GIS Technician
Job Type: Full-Time/Contract *This role is a 12-month assignment.
Job Salary: $30-$33/hour *dependent on experience*
Job Schedule: M-F (7:30am-4:30pm), 40 hrs/week
Job Location: Houston, TX 77092

The GIS Technician is responsible for creating and maintaining GIS data that is stored in the department's ArcGIS enterprise and Geocortex system, analyzing the data to support the department's internal activities, and distributing data externally as needed. The role works under the direct supervision of the GIS Department Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities
Creates and updates GIS Data and metadata in the ArcGIS enterprise system. Analyzes GIS data. Creates Geocortex applications and publishes services consumed by those applications. Prepares GIS data to fulfill GIS data requests made by consultants and the public.

Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
Good diagnostic and analytical skills
Proficiency with Esri software, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap

Work Environment
Professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, printers, filing cabinets, and scanners. May perform some work outdoors where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of rain, heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, wind, and dust. May be exposed to environmental hazards such as chemicals, wildlife, vegetation, and rough/uneven surfaces such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas, or construction sites.

Requirements

  • Two (2 ) years’ experience using GIS products, equipment, mapping, and computer-aided design. One year of experience may be allowed for each year of education in GIS-related coursework.
  • Experience with Esri’s GIS software, including ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcMap, and ArcToolbox
  • Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license
