JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of a supervisor, creates and maintains data for the City's Geographic Information System (GIS); prepares maps and graphics; collects information in the field; does related work as required.
Supervision Received: Under the general direction of a supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A Bachelor's degree in Geography, Computer Science, Planning or a related field and one (1) year of experience in the GIS field utilizing ArcGIS software OR an equivalent combination of training, education and experience.
SCOPE OF EXAMINATION: Qualified applicants will be evaluated, scored, and ranked based on the level and quality of their related education, experience, and training, as demonstrated through the application and supplemental questions.

Describe your experience creating, maintaining, editing, or updating GIS databases and data layers. Include specific information regarding: • Types of GIS layers or datasets maintained; • Creation or modification of feature classes, attributes, or other GIS data; • Data entry or editing procedures; • Methods used to maintain data accuracy and consistency; • GIS databases or systems used; and • Your level of responsibility for the data.

Describe your experience collecting geographic information in the field using GPS hardware or other field data collection technology. Include: • Types of GPS equipment or field technology used; • Types of information collected; • How field locations were identified or recorded; • Methods used to ensure the accuracy of field data; • GIS software or applications used to process the collected information; and • Examples of projects for which you performed field data collection.

Describe your experience developing maps, graphics, or other visual products using ArcGIS or other GIS software. For each type of mapping work performed, describe: • Purpose of the map or graphic; • GIS software used; • Data layers incorporated; • Symbology, labeling, or other map elements used; • Intended audience or end user; and • Your specific role in producing the final product.

Describe your experience performing quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of GIS data. Provide specific examples of: • Errors or discrepancies you identified; • Procedures used to review GIS data; • Methods used to verify the accuracy or completeness of information; • Corrections you made or recommended; and • How you determined that the GIS data was ready for use.

Describe your experience using GIS software to perform queries or spatial analysis involving locations, relationships, patterns, or trends. Describe your experience reading and interpreting survey maps, architectural plans, engineering drawings, aerial photographs, or similar geographic documents. Identify the types of documents you have worked with and explain how you used them in performing your GIS, mapping, planning, surveying, engineering, or related responsibilities.

Include specific examples of how you used legal or tract descriptions to identify, verify, map, research, or update geographic or property information. If you have no professional experience with legal or tract descriptions, describe any relevant education or training you have received in this area

Identify the applications used, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, or other Microsoft products, and provide examples of how you used them for data management, analysis, reports, correspondence, presentations, documentation, or other work related to GIS or administrative functions.
