    Job Description

At Amazon Devices, we are a world-class research and development hub focused on creating transformative consumer electronics. Since our inception in 2004, starting with the revolutionary Kindle, we've developed iconic products like Fire Tablets, Fire TV, and the Amazon Echo, which redefined home technology. With innovation at our core, we invite you to shape the future of technology with us. What will you help us create next?

We are seeking a Senior Commodity Manager who will help drive the complex, high-stakes world of memory to ensure our supply chain remains resilient, innovative, and competitive. This role is the focal point for technology, engineering, supply chain, and suppliers in securing our short-term needs as well as architecting our long-term future.

    Key job responsibilities

As a Global Commodity Manager, you will:

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive commodity technology roadmap that aligns business needs with supplier capabilities, anticipating future trends in semiconductor technologies.
    • Manage relationships with memory suppliers, define and own the Approved Vendor List (AVL) and lead the supplier lifecycle from selection and qualification to cost & contract negotiation and performance evaluation.
    • Stay ahead of industry trends by analyzing market drivers, pricing dynamics, cost structures, technical innovations, and competitive landscapes to mitigate risks and leverage opportunities.
    • Drive cost-reduction initiatives through rigorous analysis, value engineering, and fostering competitive sourcing environments. Collaborate with engineering to influence design decisions for optimal cost and performance.
    • Collaborate closely with Engineering teams and other cross functional teams to influence technical design decisions, ensuring they meet expectations, technical capabilities, and business objectives
    • Develop and maintain a robust risk mitigation strategy, addressing potential supply chain disruptions and ensuring business continuity.
    • Lead periodic business reviews to evaluate supplier performance and align on strategic business objectives.
    • Interface with Planning and Program Management teams to assess current and future sourcing requirements.
    • Periodically travel to supplier sites to drive initiatives such as cost reductions, roadmap alignment, relationship building and supplier development.

    A day in the life

As a Global Commodity Manager and subject-matter expert for memory, your day is a dynamic mix of strategic planning, technical problem-solving, and supplier engagement.

You manage the technical and commercial sourcing strategy of Memory components for multiple programs from pre-concept stages to EVT/DVT in collaboration with architecture, engineering, NPI operations, legal and suppliers. You will drive cost reduction initiatives and negotiate pricing and delivery during the entire product life cycle.

You'll collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to influence design decisions while aligning with technical and business goals. Your role involves negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and favorable terms, optimizing supply chain processes to reduce lead times and costs, and resolving complex engineering or supply chain challenges.

You'll stay ahead of market trends, pricing dynamics, and technological advancements to refine sourcing strategies, ensuring Amazon remains competitive. Cross-functional leadership is key, as you partner with legal, Product teams, NPI and sustaining operations, and planning teams to assess future sourcing needs and develop risk mitigation plans.

You'll also lead supplier evaluations, conduct business reviews to ensure performance meets expectations, and report progress to senior leadership, demonstrating how your strategies drive the success of Amazon Devices.

Every day offers opportunities to shape innovations, delivering consumer electronics to millions worldwide.

    About Company

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

    It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

    Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
