The Opportunity:

The Global Occupational Health & Wellness Director is responsible for designing, governing, and continuously improving a global strategy and operating model for Occupational Health (OH) including Injury and Workers’ Compensation case management, Employee wellness, and Occupational Health Protection (IH).

This is a high visibility and impact role that ensures compliance, protects and promotes worker health, reduces injury-related risk, and supports business performance across all global operations. It will likely be based in the United States but there is scope for the right person to be based in the Australian head office.

Scope & Impact:

The role has stewardship of the Global strategy and operating model for Occupational Health including Injury and WorkersComp management, employee wellness, ergonomics, mental health (ISO 45003), occupational hygiene, and governance of onsite medical services.

Engaging with key stakeholders within the EHS Function, Sales and Marketing, Research & Development, Manufacturing and Plasma business units to ensure compliance and generate continuous improvement.

More specifically, the role is required to provide:

  • Injury Management and Workers’ Compensation leadership in the U.S. including claims governance, medical oversight, and return-to-work integration.

  • Oversight of international injury management and return-to-work frameworks including early intervention programs and optimization of self-insurance injury management in Australia.

  • Employee Wellness leadership, chairing the Global Health and Wellness Committee and ensuring employees’ wellness is an integral part of the Global Occupational Health and Wellness Strategy, operating model and plan.

  • Serve as a global liaison across EHS, HR, Legal/Privacy, Risk/Insurance, Business Continuity, Facilities, and site leadership to develop and implement fit-for-purpose plans that advance organizational objectives.

  • Conduct strategic assessments of operating models, including resourcing and Health & Wellness functions, to identify and implement solutions that optimize efficiency through the effective use of internal and external resources.

The Role:

  • Develop and implement a global Occ Health & Wellness strategy aligned with EHS vision.

  • Lead Injury Management and Workers’ Compensation programs across the US, Europe and Australia, ensuring compliant handling, medical quality, and efficient claim resolution.

  • Establish global standards, clinical protocols, and IH governance systems.

  • Lead global case management including early communication, functional capacity evaluations, and accommodation assessments.

  • Govern Australian self-insurance injury management systems and compliance audits.

  • Oversee international Early Intervention programs focusing on rapid triage and injury minimization, capacity and “workability” function retention.

  • Lead OH/IH global teams and manage external vendor performance.

  • Own global Occupational Health data systems, KPIs, and reporting.

Skills & Experience (preferred):

  • Advanced clinical or scientific degree (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistance, a Master’s in Public Health or Master’s in Nursing with a focus on Occupational Medicine.

  • 10+ years Occupational Health leadership in multinational or regulated industries.

  • Strong experience with U.S. Injury Management and Workers’ compensation programs.

  • Knowledge of Australian self-insurance injury management and Early Intervention programs.

  • Familiarity with OSHA, EU OSH, Australian Commonwealth Work Health and Safety law, ISO 45001/45003, and ACGIH/NIOSH frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading global workers’ compensation transformation.

  • Implementation of global Occupational Health digital systems.

  • Experience with ESG metrics and cross-cultural leadership.
