    Position Summary
    The Lead Pharmacist will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day pharmacy workflow, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting compounding quality standards, and serving as a key leadership resource for pharmacists, technicians, and operations staff. This role requires a hands-on pharmacist who thrives in a growing, entrepreneurial environment. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working directly in the operation while also helping build structure, accountability, and scalable processes.
     
    Key Responsibilities
    Pharmacy Operations Leadership
    • Oversee daily pharmacy workflow to ensure prescriptions are reviewed, compounded, verified, labeled, and released accurately and efficiently.
    • Serve as a pharmacist leader for operational decision-making, issue resolution, and prioritization.
    • Support production planning, staffing alignment, and work balancing across pharmacy operations.
    • Partner with operations, customer service, fulfillment, quality, and management teams to ensure timely patient order completion.
    • Identify bottlenecks and implement process improvements to improve accuracy, turnaround time, compliance, and team productivity.
    Clinical & Compounding Oversight
    • Review prescriptions for accuracy, appropriateness, safety, interactions, allergies, dosing, and legal requirements.
    • Provide oversight for compounded preparations in accordance with applicable standards and internal SOPs.
    • Ensure proper documentation of prescription verification, compounding records, calculations, ingredient review, and final product checks.
    • Support appropriate beyond-use dating, formulation review, and clinical decision-making.
    • Assist with provider and patient questions related to compounded medications when needed.
    Quality, Compliance & Regulatory Standards
    • Ensure pharmacy practices comply with applicable state board of pharmacy regulations, USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, DEA requirements, HIPAA, FDA guidance, and company SOPs as applicable.
    • Promote a culture of quality, safety, accountability, and right-first-time execution.
    • Support internal audits, incident investigations, CAPAs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure controlled substance handling, inventory controls, and documentation are maintained appropriately.
    • Partner with Operations and Quality leadership to maintain inspection readiness and regulatory compliance.
    Team Leadership & Development
    • Provide coaching, training, and daily direction to pharmacists and support staff.
    • Help establish clear expectations for performance, accuracy, documentation, and professionalism.
    • Assist with onboarding, competency assessments, and ongoing training for pharmacist team.
    • Serve as a positive leadership presence during periods of growth, change, and high-volume workflow.
    • Escalate performance, compliance, or workflow concerns appropriately to pharmacy leadership.
    Continuous Improvement
    • Recommend improvements to systems, workflow, training, documentation, and quality controls.
    • Support implementation of new technology, SOP updates, and operational best practices.
    • Track and support improvement of key pharmacy metrics such as turnaround time, prescription accuracy, rework, quality events, and productivity.
    • Help build scalable pharmacy processes that support continued business growth.
    Required Qualifications
    • Pharmacist license in good standing; must be eligible for licensure in applicable operating states.
    • PharmD or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited pharmacy program.
    • Experience in retail, specialty, compounding, mail-order, or high-volume pharmacy operations.
    • Strong understanding of prescription verification, patient safety, and medication quality standards.
    • Demonstrated ability to guide others, solve problems, prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong attention to detail, documentation discipline, and commitment to compliance.
    • Excellent communication skills with pharmacists, technicians, and cross-functional teams.
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Prior experience in a compounding pharmacy environment.
    • Knowledge of USP <795>, USP <797>, and USP <800> standards.
    • Experience leading pharmacy technicians or pharmacist teams.
    • Experience with quality systems, CAPA, deviation investigations, audits, or inspection readiness.
    • Familiarity with pharmacy management systems, workflow software, inventory systems, and fulfillment operations.
    • Multi-state licensure or willingness to obtain additional state licenses.
