Job Description:

The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for Golf Course Maintenance/Pro-Shop Laborers positions. These positions perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties related to the construction, maintenance, or repair of City-owned golf courses.

This announcement will be used to fill Seasonal positions in various departments, as they become available. These positions typically work numerous early morning, daytime, evening hours, and shifts on weekends as well.

Essential Functions:

May perform all or some of the following:

Golf Course Maintenance

Uses a variety of hand tools, such as shovels, picks, brooms, pitch forks, etc.; sweeps alleys and sidewalks, hand shovels snow, hand salts and sands, cleans up debris and construction waste; mows grass and removes weeds on City grounds and right-of-ways; repairs sprinkler lines and prepares athletic fields.

Loads or unloads supplies; lifts and moves heavy objects; lifts and carries gravel, dirt, asphalt, timber, or other materials in the maintenance of property owned by the City.

Assists in the preparation of grounds for various projects; Operates small power tools and equipment such as, hand mower, weed trimmer, chain saw, riding mower, tamper, snow blower, or roller; may operate pick-up or small vehicle in transportation of materials; checks equipment on a daily basis to assure that it is operating safely and correctly.

Sets up and removes barricades as needed; may assist in loading of snow in winter; may assist in filling and placing sand bags during flood control.

Pro Shop Laborer

Participates in day-to-day operations; assures proper opening and closing of golf course and Golf Shop, and keeps golf shop clean at all times.

Responsible for golf shop functions including merchandising, cart management, and all other concessions.

Schedules tee times and using the reservation system; collects all fees while ensuring proper accounting procedures are followed at all times; instructs guests in course rules.

Participates in the operating of golf tournaments, clinics, outings, and special events; participates with and promotes affiliated golf associations as needed; helps with the successful operation of all course activities and events as required.

Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education and Experience:

A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above duties; AND B. Some experience in the operation of heavy-duty trucks desirable

OR

C. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

  1. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of City geography; some knowledge of basic maintenance procedures; some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to above duties; some knowledge of the operation of standard hand and power tools.

Some skill in the operation of standard hand tools and heavy-duty trucks preferred.

Ability to work in all weather extremes; ability to perform strenuous physical labor; ability to operate small motorized vehicles and pick-up; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.

  1. Special Qualifications:

Some departments may require a valid Idaho Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsements. Some departments may require employees to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or be on-call.

Final candidates may be subject to a background check prior to employment.

Work Environment:

Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc.(moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally moving up to 80 pounds). Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of the job. Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, discriminating thinking. Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance.
