SunBird Golf Club is seeking an experienced, motivated, and team-oriented Golf Course Superintendent to lead the agronomic operations of our member-owned and operated semi-private golf club in Chandler, Arizona.

About SunBird Golf Club

SunBird Golf Club is a member-owned and operated semi-private facility located in Chandler, Arizona. Designed by renowned golf course architect Gary Panks, the club features a unique and enjoyable 18-hole, par-66 golf course playing approximately 4,600 yards and spanning 70 total acres, including 60 acres of maintained and irrigated turf.

SunBird serves an active and engaged golf community in the Southeast Valley and takes pride in providing quality course conditions, strong hospitality, and a welcoming culture for members, residents, and guests alike.

The Superintendent will play a critical leadership role in maintaining and elevating course conditions while building strong relationships with club leadership, staff, and membership.

Position Summary

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the golf course, grounds, irrigation systems, equipment maintenance operations, and agronomic practices. This individual will lead and develop the maintenance team while overseeing budgeting, planning, water management, and daily course presentation.

The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator, strong leader, and problem solver who embraces accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all golf course maintenance and agronomic operations
  • Develop and execute agronomic programs that support consistent playing conditions
  • Manage irrigation scheduling, water allotment, and overall turf health
  • Recruit, train, develop, and lead the golf course maintenance team
  • Maintain safe working conditions and operational standards
  • Oversee departmental budgeting, forecasting, purchasing, and expense control
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with club leadership and staff
  • Maintain equipment, chemical, fertilizer, and irrigation inventories
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Support a culture of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork
  • Prepare the golf course daily to meet member and guest expectations

Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent preferred
  • Adept knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and desert golf course operations
  • Passion for agronomy, soil science, and data-driven decision-making
  • Arizona overseed experience preferred
  • Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and team-building skills
  • Experience managing budgets, scheduling, and labor performance
  • Ability to build positive relationships with members, residents, and staff
  • Passion for the game of golf and pride in golf course presentation
