About the Position

The Government Relations Planner will support the Interstate Bridge Replacement (IBR) program and will be embedded in a project-based public affairs team. This position will support two-way communications with the Program partners; provide coordination and task management support for partner relations and government relations work, and collaborate with the communications team to develop materials needed for strategy implementation.

Classification: Salaried/Exempt

Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000

Location: Position is based in Washington State with a hybrid work schedule and regular in-office presence at the IBR Program office located in Vancouver, WA. Position could report to either the Tacoma, WA or Vancouver, WA PointNorth office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Government Relations (GR) Strategy & Planning - Contribute to the IBR public affairs strategy; develop and maintain a comprehensive GR plan with priorities, tactics, and timelines.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Briefings - Plan, prepare, and staff briefings with elected officials and key interested parties; maintain updated inventories and an elected official map for the program area
  • Content Development - Collaborate with the Communications team to develop briefing materials, talking points, presentations, and summaries in support of GR efforts.
  • Meeting Facilitation - Lead internal GR planning meetings, including agendas, scheduling, and notes distribution.
  • Tracking & Deliverables - Maintain a presentation tracker; track team tasks and deliverables; submit program deliverables on schedule and post materials to Google Drive.
  • Reporting & Administrative Support - Contribute to the monthly progress report; perform administrative and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in Public Affairs, Political Science, or a related field.
  • 3-6 years of professional experience in government relations, public affairs, public relations, or communications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of local, state, and federal legislative and executive processes. Working with government agencies, elected officials, and regulatory matters preferred.
  • Experience having worked for a consulting firm / agency and/or professional service organizations.
