    Salary range: $125K - $180K

    Location: Los Angeles, CA, Costa Mesa, CA, Inland Empire, CA

    About this role

    We are looking for a Governmental Entity Liability Associate with at least 2+ years of civil litigation defense experience to join a specialized team representing cities, municipalities, and police officers in excessive force and public entity liability cases. You'll work closely with lead attorneys across all phases of litigation while receiving mentorship, client exposure, and real trial opportunities at a firm that genuinely invests in your growth.

    What will you be doing?

    • Representing public entities and law enforcement officers in excessive force and governmental liability matters
    • Managing discovery end-to-end — propounding, responding, taking and defending depositions
    • Drafting and arguing motions, conducting case evaluations, and executing litigation strategy
    • Reporting to clients (cities/municipalities) and ensuring compliance with their case management requirements
    • Handling cases from initial complaint through trial — including filing demurrers/answers and plaintiff depositions

    Key Requirements

    • Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active California State Bar membership in good standing
    • Minimum 2 years of civil litigation defense experience
    • Deposition experience (taking and defending) and familiarity with written discovery
    • Ability to meet 1,920 annual billable hours requirement
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfort with client-facing reporting and case evaluations
    Role responsibilities
    • Managing discovery, including propounding and responding to discovery, drafting and arguing motions, and taking and defending depositions.
    • Timely and accurate reporting to clients, ensuring compliance with case management requirements.
    • Evaluating, analyzing, assessing, and executing litigation strategies.
    • Proactively managing communications with clients throughout litigation.
