POSITION SUMMARY:
The Database Administrator, under the direction of the Data and Applications Manager, is responsible for installing, monitoring, supporting and securing all the enterprise databases and data repositories across the tribe’s government, gaming & hospitality, health and enterprise divisions.Works closely with other IT resources, organization managers and key application stakeholders to create strategies and operational designs for database and data optimization.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position heavy with lifting of 100 pounds maximum and frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds. Physical factors include constant use of color vision, typing; frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, use of hearing, driving, bending; occasional pushing/pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, manual handling, use of smell, near/midrange/far vision and field of vision. Working conditions include occasional exposure to weather, wet/humidity, noise and air quality. Potential hazards include constant computer use and occasional exposure to electric shock, high exposed places, chemicals and equipment. The IT Department is a 24/7 operation; working nights, weekends, holidays and on-call should be expected.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems Management or similar IT field required or five years of demonstrated experience database administration.
Experience: No additional experience required.
Certification/License: Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver’s license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must undergo a Criminal background investigation done under the rules of the National Indian Gaming Commission. Must comply with the Sault Tribe’s Drug-Free Workplace Policy which may include random drug tests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS) with a focus on Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Databases, and experience with all relevant database platforms used by the organization required. Thorough understanding of data security best practices, data access control mechanisms, and data governance policies and procedures required.Musthave working knowledge of data warehousing concepts, data integration techniques (ETL processes), and Business Intelligence (BI) tools. Must have familiarity with cloud-based database storage and data processing solutions required. Must have knowledge of database performance optimization techniques and tools for troubleshooting and improving database efficiency. Proven skills in database installation, configuration, maintenance, and optimization required. Expertise in implementing and managing database backup and recovery procedures to ensure data availability required. Ability to analyze database performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and troubleshoot database-related issues required. Skills in developing and maintaining ETL processes to integrate data from various sources into other applications, downloads or data warehouses required. Must have proficiency in writing and executing SQL queries for data manipulation, retrieval, and analysis. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve complex database issues required. Must have a keen eye for detail to ensure accuracy in database configuration, data management, and adherence to data governance policies. Must have proven ability to work collaboratively with the IT Data & Applications team (Data & Application Administrators, Project Managers, etc.) and other IT teams (Application Specialists, BI Analysts) to ensure seamless database integration within the IT infrastructure. Strong desire to stay up to date on emerging database technologies, cloud solutions, and security best practices required. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Required. Must maintain strict confidentiality of all tribal data and business operations. Native American preferred.
