GPU/HPC Hardware Technician

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking a GPU / HPC Hardware Technician for a 6+ month long-duration, on-site opportunity with an innovative energy technology company located in Portland, OR. The GPU / HPC Hardware Technician will support high-performance computing infrastructure through server installation, hardware troubleshooting and repair, system monitoring, cabling, and ongoing hardware maintenance. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with modern GPU server hardware and is comfortable working with high-density compute systems in a fast-paced technical environment.

Pay: $35–$50/hour DOE

GPU / HPC Hardware Technician Responsibilities:

• Install, rack, configure, and cable servers and associated networking and storage hardware.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot server hardware issues and perform component replacements, including GPUs, NVMe drives, power supplies, NICs, and memory.

• Monitor system health and respond to hardware failure alerts related to thermal conditions, power, and component errors.

• Support server firmware and BIOS updates and hardware configuration.

• Install and manage power, network, InfiniBand, and other high-performance computing cabling while maintaining proper cable management and airflow.

• Assist with rack layouts, capacity planning, and power and cooling considerations for high-density compute equipment.

• Coordinate with equipment manufacturers and vendors regarding troubleshooting, warranty service, and RMAs.

• Maintain accurate hardware inventory, serial number, configuration, and maintenance records.

• Follow established electrical, ESD, equipment handling, and workplace safety procedures.

• Travel between company locations within the Portland/Vancouver/Hillsboro metro area as needed.

GPU / HPC Hardware Technician Qualifications:

• Previous hands-on experience installing, maintaining, or troubleshooting enterprise server hardware.

• Experience with modern GPU server hardware, such as NVIDIA H100, H200, or B200 GPUs and HGX/DGX platforms, strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with server platforms from manufacturers such as Dell, Supermicro, HPE, or Lenovo.

• Understanding of data center networking fundamentals, including Ethernet, InfiniBand, and applicable cabling standards.

• Experience working with high-density compute racks and advanced air or liquid cooling systems preferred.

• Ability to perform hardware diagnostics, identify component failures, and complete component-level replacements.

• Comfortable performing firmware and BIOS updates and basic server hardware configuration.

• Prior data center, NOC, HPC, server hardware, or field service technician experience preferred.

• CompTIA Server+, DCPro, or relevant vendor-specific certifications are a plus.

• Ability to safely lift and rack server equipment weighing 50+ lbs.

• Reliable transportation and ability to travel between Portland, Vancouver, and Hillsboro-area facilities as needed.
