Summary

The primary purpose of the Graduate Assistant (GA) position is to provide essential support for departmental teaching, research, and administrative operations. It serves the dual purpose of advancing the Department's mission while providing the GA with practical, supervised experience in clinical, instructional, administrative, or research tasks. This role is integral to developing GA's professional competencies as a future practitioner, bridging academic training with hands-on departmental responsibilities.

Essential Functions

Assist with clinical skills supervision and training by observing, co-facilitating, or providing feedback on student counseling sessions under licensed faculty supervision.

Provide instructional support for core courses by leading discussion sections, grading assignments with rubrics, and providing detailed student feedback.

Support faculty research through literature reviews, data collection, entry, analysis, and assistance in preparing manuscripts or conference presentations.

Prepare and maintain instructional materials, including updating course websites (e.g., Canvas), organizing content, and setting up audiovisual or clinical equipment for instructional delivery.

Tutor and mentor graduate counseling students by actively engaging in the Department Mentorship Program, holding office hours to clarify course concepts, providing academic support, and offering guidance on professional development.

Manage administrative tasks for the Department, such as coordinating events, maintaining student records, and handling confidential communications.

Assist in the new students' orientation and mentorship activities by creating or updating support materials, organizing digital files, and helping to coordinate activities for newly admitted students.

Aid in accreditation compliance by helping to collect, organize, and analyze program assessment data and student learning outcomes.

Provide technical support for department-specific software and technology used for research, instruction, or clinical recording.

Actively participate in the Department at recruitment events, open houses, and professional conferences to engage students, prospective students, and the broader community.

Qualifications/Requirements

This position is open to students enrolled in the School of Psychology /Counseling Program.

Effective oral and written communication skills

Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and in compliance with University policies and applicable regulations.

3.0 GPA is required for the MS program 3.25 is required for the PhD program

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20
