Position Information

Title Graduate Assistant - International Student and Scholar Services Position Description

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS).
  • Plan and host cross-cultural events, programs and workshops.
  • Assist with arrivals and departures of students - includes trips to Boston Logan.
  • Assist with pre-departure and re-entry events.
  • Assist with ISSS publicity such as web and newsletter content management
  • Assist with developing program assessment tools
  • Create content and manage department social media
  • Publicity development/article writing - interview current and past ISSS students to publicize their experiences.
  • Maintain alumni database.
  • Serve as an international orientation leader and provide leadership and guidance to international orientation leaders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Multicultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Willingness and ability to work with non-native English speakers.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer software including Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge and responsible use of social media.
  • Strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of communication/graphic design skills and applications (such as web development/maintenance, Publisher, InDesign, Photoshop).
  • Students in the Student Affairs, Counseling, Educational Leadership, or M.Ed. programs.
  • Prior event planning experience.

Valid drivers license and/or reliable means of transportation

  • Office activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and interaction with computer equipment
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds. Travel across campus if needed.
