The Resource Centers operate under the Department of Student Engagement & Leadership and include the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center (GOBCC), LGBTQ Resource Center, Multicultural Center, and Womens Center.

Job Description

Summary

The Resource Centers operate community-centered spaces designed to foster a sense of belonging among students. These centers support students through education, programming, and outreach initiatives. The Resource Center Graduate Assistant is a graduate-level position that supports the Assistant Director for Resource Centers and Student Engagement & Leadership staff by contributing to center operations, programming, and outreach efforts.

Essential Functions

  • Programming & Student Engagement

  • Collaborate weekly with the Assistant Director for Resource Centers and Student Engagement & Leadership staff to develop, implement, and assess programming, outreach initiatives, and community-building services for each Resource Center.

  • Plan and execute both small- and large-scale events, ensuring compliance with all University policies and procedures.

  • Advise and support undergraduate student leaders in event planning, coordination, logistics, and post-event assessment.

  • Serve as an ambassador for Student Engagement & Leadership by promoting the department and fostering a sense of belonging across campus.

  • Operations & Administrative Support

  • Assist with the daily operational management of the Resource Centers.

  • Support the Assistant Director for Resource Centers with administrative tasks, including:

  • Purchasing supplies

  • Student employee scheduling and staffing

  • Record keeping and assessment

  • General office management

  • Manage the space reservation process by:

  • Monitoring MU Engage for requests

  • Confirming necessary permits

  • Maintaining accurate records

  • Responding promptly to communications from stakeholders

  • Student Staff Development

  • Recruit, train, and coach student employees to maintain high standards of customer service for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

  • Provide ongoing guidance and feedback to foster student employee leadership development.

  • Collaboration & Campus Engagement

  • Collaborate with a wide range of University partners, including but not limited to Fraternity & Sorority Life, Leadership & Service, MizzouRec, MU Housing, Office of Assessment & Strategic Initiatives, Student Health & Well-Being, Environmental Health & Safety, Emergency Services, Reservations & Events, and Campus Facilities.

  • Actively contribute to division-wide initiatives and cross-campus programming.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$23.37 per hour, paid on a bi-weekly basis.

Shift

Average number of hours per week: 20.

Hours may be scheduled between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Fridays.

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for a student title, an individual must be enrolled at the University of Missouri. Enrollment in the summer session is not required if the student was enrolled in the Spring semester and is pre-enrolled for the Fall semester. Selection is contingent upon results of a review with the Office of Institutional Equity, Office of Student Accountability & Support, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, previous MU appointment history, and reference checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be a student enrolled in a graduate degree program at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
  • Administrative experience and/or working in an office setting.
  • Experience in event programming and/or planning and executing events.
  • Customer service experience and working with a wide range of individuals.
  • Experience working with people at various levels within an organization, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Desire to learn and assist others in accessing resources to promote student success and campus engagement.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong problem-solving skills.
