Position Information

Title Graduate Assistant - Secondary Education and Educational Leadership Position Description

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.

Overview

The Educational Leadership Program (EDLE) is requesting a graduate assistant for the 2026-2027 academic year. Typically, we look for an advanced student that has an interest in school administration or a career in higher education in which the experience of being a graduate assistant will give them a greater chance at success in their chosen field.

Duties

Assistance in planning, running, and attending major events hosted by the SEEL department, and the EDLE program. The GA will offer support for these events, and in addition the student is able to meet, network, and gain knowledge from each event.

Events include:

  • Higher Education Administration (HEA) Info-Session Fair: This is a new event targeting the MA Community College (CC) system and will require much preparation. Recruiting students from CC's to enter the HEA program is one of the strategic goals of the EDLE program. The GA will be instrumental in forging partnerships throughout the fall and early spring semester to foster interest and enthusiasm for the HEA program, which has been growing steadily year after year. This will allow our GA to have an opportunity to network with partners long after the fair.
  • Educational Leadership Advisory Board Meeting: Reactivation of the Curriculum and Instruction leadership council. This has been an outreach program from BSU educational leadership program to school district community partners including schools, agencies, and institutions that sponsor EDLE practicum students to discuss matters of educational interest which may include representatives from the Dept. of Elementary & Secondary Education (DESE). This is of utmost importance to keep abreast of educational mandates as they change.
  • EDLE Conferences: The department hosts an annual conference in the spring for EDLE graduates where BSU alumni are invited back to speak about the challenges of educational leadership today.
  • Assist with the roll-out of program training materials for students and faculty in transition from Taskstream to Watermark Student Learning and Licensure (SL&L) systems for full implementation in the fall 2026 and spring 2027 semesters. for students.
  • Assist with program specific research projects, such as literature review, creating student surveys, data entry and analyses, comparative analysis of program website, and review of program requirements.
  • Assist with small departmental office tasks, including the development of program recruitment materials and the creation and maintenance of alumni database.
