Position Information

Title Graduate Assistant - Transfer Services Position Description

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will work 20 hours per week and receive up to 24 credits of tuition and student fee waivers: 9 for fall, 9 for spring and 6 for summer.

Responsibilities/Duties

A graduate assistant working in the Office of Transfer Services will work closely with the Director, Transfer Counselors, and Transfer Ambassadors. Candidate must possess the desire to serve as a transfer student advocate and promote a student-centered environment and seamless transfer transition.

Duties will include:

  • General one on one transfer advising, group advising, advising by telephone, virtual, and advising by email.
  • Conducting weekly Degree Works degree audit reviews and assist students with the appeal process.
  • Working closely with the Office of Admissions and faculty, to solve application and transfer credit issues on behalf of the student.
  • Coordinating and assisting in the development and implementation of articulation agreements with community colleges and academic departments.
  • Assisting in the mentorship and oversight of Transfer Student Ambassadors.
  • Light research and data collection as needed, such as looking at best practices at other institutions.
  • Working with social media and student announcements.
  • Assisting in the planning and implementing of events and programs aimed at supporting the transitional needs of current and prospective transfers.
  • Other duties as requested by the Director of Transfer Services.

Qualifications

An understanding of Bridgewater's education principles, policies and procedures are required. The position will require sensitivity to student concerns and issues, as well as flexibility, patience, and professional integrity. The candidate must possess the ability to develop good working relationships with constituencies on and off campus. Strong writing, communication and attention to detail are necessary. This is not a clerical position. Our intent is for our graduate assistants to experience student interaction in a higher education setting and offer supportive student-centered services.
