The Graduate Practical Nurse works under the supervision of the Clinic Manager and the direction of the provider and/or Clinic RN. Graduate Practical Nurse administers quality patient care according to established standards. Graduate Practical Nurse may delegate tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel. May be required to work in other areas according to skill of staff and acuity of patients. The Graduate Practical Nurse position is time limited. A person may remain in the Graduate Practical Nurse position until one of the following occurs: 1) They become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensed in their designated working state OR 2) They receive a failing score on the nurse licensure exam and are moved to another position in which they qualify.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills

  • Fine motor skills required, eye\hand coordination, walk, ability to speak clearly, hear answer phone, data entry.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Displays a friendly, positive attitude and communicates with patients, families, physicians and co-workers in a professional manner.
  • Ability to communicate in verbally and written.

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Must move, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, stand, push, pull, and lift.
  • Must follow good body mechanics.

  • Ability to collect thorough information regarding patient''s condition and evaluate effects of care; must be able to visually inspect patient''s condition.
  • Problem solve, manipulate numbers, adaptability, interpret data, calculate, comprehend, understand, explain, assess, evaluate short term and long term memory.

Essential Sensory Requirements

  • Visual, hearing, feeling, smell.

Exposure to Hazards

  • Needle sticks, cuts, back injury, body fluids, blood, punctures, scratches, physical injury from combative patients, radiation exposure, blood products, road and weather hazards when driving required.
  • Infection/disease exposure from patients, visitors, and co-workers.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Greets and prepares patient for provider examination and treatment. Performs general nursing care to patients.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Assists provider with procedures and properly maintains equipment before and after procedures.
  • Engages in patient/family teaching to achieve the desired patient outcome.
  • Monitors the scheduling of patients, answers patient inquiries, and maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient's condition to provider.
  • Arranges for patient referral testing at other facilities or specialty care.

Education

  • Recent graduate of an accredited practical nursing program, or military equivalent. - Required

Work Experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - State Licensure - State Licensure/Or Compact State Licensure in state, depending upon designated work location - Required within 90 Days
  • IV Certification - IV certified upon hire or within 1 year. - Required within 1 Year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - Required within 90 Days
  • Driver''s License - Valid In State - If operating a motor vehicle for business purposes. - Required Upon Hire

Travel Requirements
