    About the Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD)

    CSRD contributes to the LBJ School’s mission of preparing policy, government, and thought leaders with the knowledge, critical thinking, and intellectual tools to have impact in an increasingly diverse local, regional, national, and global political, social, economic, and cultural milieu.

    Purpose

    The Center for the Study of Race and Democracy (CSRD) at the LBJ School of Public Affairs seeks an exceptional graduate student to serve as the Graduate Program & Communications Assistant. This position offers significant professional experience in program management, communications, event planning, and public engagement while working closely with the Center’s Director on nationally recognized initiatives.

    The Graduate Program & Communications Assistant will play a leadership role in coordinating the Center’s public programming and communications while helping oversee the Center’s daily operations and provide guidance to the undergraduate student assistant.

    Responsibilities

    Program and Event Management

    • Coordinate lectures, conferences, workshops, meetings, and public programs.

    • Manage event logistics, scheduling, speaker communications, travel coordination, and day-of-event execution.

    • Assist in planning new initiatives that advance the Center’s mission.

    Communications and Marketing

    • Manage the Center’s social media platforms and digital communications.

    • Prepare newsletters and promotional materials.

    • Update and maintain the Center’s website.

    • Assist with marketing and outreach for events and programs.

    Administrative Coordination

    • Assist with scheduling, purchasing, travel arrangements, meeting preparation, correspondence, and general office operations.

    • Help maintain calendars, files, and organizational systems that support the Center’s activities.

    Student Leadership

    • Coordinate assignments and provide day-to-day guidance for the Undergraduate Communications & Program Assistant.

    • Help ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.

    Research and Special Projects

    • Provide research assistance for Center initiatives and projects directed by the Director.

    • Assist with special projects that support the Center’s research, programming, and public engagement mission.

    Required Qualifications

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    • Strong organizational and project management abilities.

    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

    • Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Familiarity with social media management, Canva, and website content management.

    • Interest in race, democracy, public affairs, history, public policy, or civic engagement.

    Salary Rate

     $18 per hour
