The Grant Accountant supports the fiscal integrity of grant and restricted accounts by providing accounting services and guidance to internal departments and external partners. This role ensures appropriate expenditure classification, compliance with grant regulations, accurate reporting, and timely reconciliation of restricted funds. The position works closely with the Grants Accounting Manager to review journal entries, monitor financial activity, and maintain auditable records.
Review transaction details and prepare journal entry transfers for approval and posting.
Review Time and Effort reporting for restricted fund staff to ensure compliance and recommend general ledger corrections as needed.
Maintain accurate and timely processing of transactions, billings, collections, and financial reports related to restricted accounts.
Prepare draft financial reports for assigned federal, state, local, and private grants, contracts, and gifts for review and approval.
Conduct monthly reconciliations of assigned grant and contract accounts.
Ensure grant files are audit-ready and support audits, reviews, and documentation requests.
Apply appropriate accounting procedures to ensure compliance with cash management standards and grant regulations.
Provide guidance to departments and partners regarding proper procedures for restricted fund activities.
Assist in maintaining accurate restricted financial records and supporting documentation.
Serve as a liaison to internal departments and external partners to support grant-related financial activities.
Provide financial analysis and reporting support for grant-funded projects.
Experienced professional contributor working under general supervision.
Responsible for completing assigned tasks, explaining policies and procedures, and identifying solutions to moderately complex issues.
Exercises judgment within established guidelines and may recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, service, and compliance.
Builds productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
May provide guidance or training to junior staff.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Minimum of 2–3 years of related accounting experience required
4–7 years of related experience preferred
Experience with grant accounting, restricted funds, compliance reporting, or governmental/nonprofit accounting strongly preferred
