Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Texas Pre-freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) identifies achieving middle and high school students with an interest in engineering, science, technology, and other mathematics-related areas and strengthens their potential for careers in these fields. TexPREP is a collaborative effort of colleges and universities located throughout Texas, that encourages students to begin preparing early for scientific and engineering career paths in school.

The TEXPREP MENTOR supervises TexPREP students at the Del Mar College Oso Creek Campus and on weekly field trips during the seven week program which begins June 01, 2026 and ends on July 19, 2026. The TexPREP mentor assists instructors by guiding group work and tutoring PREP students.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate with completion of some college coursework in Math; this may include dual credit courses taken at the high school level.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Commitment and interest in assisting middle and high school students in their academic and personal growth.

Ability to actively engage and be involved with children on a daily basis.

Ability to use good judgement when responding to emergency situations.

Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with students, staff, parents, and public.

Ability to respond professionally and appropriately when dealing with children who may have special needs.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience working with adolescents.

Completion of Calculus I and other advanced mathematics courses.

Participation in a STEM club or team at the high school and/or collegiate level.

College science, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or technology majors.

Previous TexPREP participants; and former TexPREP employees.
