GENERAL SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for pre- and post-award management of various grants/awards (five to seven figures) from foundations, organizations, corporations, state, and federal government entities to departments within the business unit(s). Works closely with the Henry Ford Health Development Office to ensure enterprise-wide cohesion and alignment. Interacts with leadership, project managers and administrative staff internally and at subcontracted agencies to ensure that grants are compliant with regulatory, funding agency, and Henry Ford Health financial and policy requirements. Provides guidance and support to investigators in the identification and development of grant opportunities. Pre-award planning, organization, preparation: 15-20% of time. Award administration, reporting, compliance: 80-85% of time.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages pre-award and post-award activities for state and federal grants, foundation grants, and sub-awardee activities for departments within the assigned business unit(s).
  • Identifies appropriate grant funding sources to meet the strategic priorities of departments within the business unit(s). Collaborates with appropriate internal staff to shape fundable projects and develop proposals that match priorities with external funding opportunities.
  • Maintains system to track grant opportunities, submissions, awards, reports, deadlines, etc. to ensure compliance with RFP and/or contractual requirements.
  • Manages subcontractor/sub-awardee statement of work/contracts, reporting and deliverables.
  • Prepares grant budgets, tracks grant finances for each award against budget, submits reimbursement requests, and prepares related statements and financial grant reports.
  • Collaborates with other existing grant-seeking entities within the health system, with the Development Office, Fund Accounting, and other corporate services departments.
  • Provides technical assistance to various departments.
  • Maintains a positive relationship with funders and potential funders.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience in pre- and post-award grant management including, progress reporting, subcontract management, grant finance/accounting, and compliance requirements for multiple award types including federal grants. Experience independently managing large grant awards, preferred.
  • Experience producing proposals including grant writing and managing grant and other funding awards, including federal grants.
  • Experience managing and coordinating administrative projects across multiple team members and partner agencies.
  • Experience interpreting financial data and preparing budgets and financial grant reports, statements and/or projections.
  • Experience producing detailed grant progress reports for large awards.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize work and resources, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of grant funding policies and procedures and applicable local, state, federal and university regulations.
  • Knowledge of current developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Ability to determine informational needs, and to collect and analyze information.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications, including database management skills.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and/or community funding sources and mechanisms including potential sources of health-related funding.
  • Ability to conduct literature searches.
  • Experience organizing/implementing institutional grants management systems preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills preferred.
  • Good understanding of the organization's overall business and its objectives preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of planning and strategizing financial and budgeting issues preferred.
  • Ability to perform job responsibilities in a cross-functional team approach preferred.
  • A multi-tasker with strong ability to work under pressure preferred.
  • Ability to devise/develop/conduct statistical analyses and reports preferred.
