About the Skirball 

The Skirball Cultural Center is a Jewish cultural institution that welcomes people of all communities and generations. Through exhibitions, public programs, and education, it explores the connections between Jewish heritage and American democratic ideals and works toward a more just society.

The Role 

The Skirball seeks an experienced grant writing consultant to strengthen and grow its institutional giving program. Reporting to the Manager of Institutional Giving, the consultant will focus on three priority areas:

• Arts education: school programs, family programs, and intergenerational education
• Government funding: federal, state, county, and city grant programs
• Capital grants: support for the Skirball's capital projects

Responsibilities

• Research, write, and submit competitive letters of inquiry, full proposals, and reports to foundation and government funders
• Develop compelling capital case language and proposals for capital projects, in line with the Skirball's Case for Support
• Craft clear narratives, outcomes, and evaluation plans for Skirball programs
• Work with education, curatorial, finance, and leadership colleagues to gather program content, data, and budgets
• Ensure compliance with funder guidelines, government registration requirements, and reporting deadlines
• Help maintain the institutional grants calendar and pipeline
• Identify new foundation and government funding prospects within the focus areas

Qualifications

• [5+] years of grant writing experience, ideally with museums, cultural, or educational organizations
• A track record of securing government grants (federal experience strongly preferred) and capital or campaign funding
• Experience writing for arts education programs, including outcomes and evaluation language
• Strong budget literacy and comfort working with finance teams on project and capital budgets
• Excellent writing, editing, and project management skills; able to manage multiple deadlines independently
• Sensitivity to and comfort with content related to Jewish history, culture, and identity
• Familiarity with Grants.gov, SAM.gov, and state and local grant portals preferred

Engagement Details

• Scope: 30 hours/week
• Term: Six months with option to renew
• Compensation: $80 + depending on experience
