Title: Grants Accountant
Compensation: $80,000 – $95,000 (based on experience)
Location: Hybrid (Washington, DC / Northern Virginia area)

Overview:
Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit organization, is seeking a detail-oriented Grants Accountant to support the financial management of government and privately funded programs. This role will partner closely with program teams and leadership to ensure accurate grant reporting, compliance, and financial integrity across multiple funding sources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage grant accounting activities including tracking revenues, expenses, and allocations across multiple funding sources
  • Prepare and submit grant invoices and financial reports in accordance with funder requirements
  • Reconcile grant-related accounts and ensure proper coding of all transactions 
  • Monitor grant budgets and provide variance analysis to program leadership
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) requirements
  • Support monthly close activities including journal entries and account reconciliations 
  • Assist with audit preparation, including gathering supporting documentation and responding to auditor requests
  • Partner with non-finance staff to provide guidance on grant spending, budgeting, and reporting

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 3+ years of nonprofit grant accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and private grant compliance requirements
  • Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (NetSuite, Financial Edge, or similar preferred)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities

Preferred:

  • Experience with government grants and contract billing
  • Knowledge of Form 990 reporting support
  • CPA or CPA-track is a plus
