Overview of the Organization

Chhaya is the only South Asian and Indo-Caribbean Community Development Corporation in the nation. Our mission is to build inclusive and equitable neighborhoods by fostering the self-determination, housing stability, and economic well-being of South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities across New York City.

Since our founding in 2000, Chhaya has helped prevent hundreds of foreclosures, assisted first-time homebuyers in obtaining down-payment assistance, led New York City’s basement legalization campaign, provided vital immigration services, empowered families with financial-management tools and skills, and fostered the civic engagement of thousands of South Asian and Indo-Caribbean New Yorkers.

\n

As a leader in New York City’s housing and economic justice sector, Chhaya is poised for significant organizational growth and development. Chhaya has a main office in Jackson Heights and a second location in Richmond Hill—two neighborhoods with vibrant South Asian and Indo-Caribbean communities.

• Work closely with program staff to maintain compliance with government contracts, including completing contract-registration processes and maintaining insurance and other required documentation.

\n

• Oversee annual maintenance reports and registrations, including prequalification applications, SAM registration, and state vendor questionnaires.

\n

• Develop internal systems and platforms for managing Chhaya’s government grants for capital projects and operations.

\n

• Support the Development team with foundation and corporate grants as needed.

\n

• Perform other administrative and finance-related tasks as needed.

\n

As a member of Chhaya’s staff, the Grants Associate may receive additional responsibilities related to special events, critical initiatives, and other circumstances requiring full staff participation, including occasional evenings and weekends.
