    Pay Grade E31 Salary FLSA Exempt Job Summary/Basic Function

    The Grants, Research, and Innovation Officer provides advanced support across the sponsored project lifecycle while leading departmental innovation, operational modernization, workflow optimization, process improvement, institutional knowledge management, data analytics, reporting, and technology-enabled initiatives. The position serves as a strategic resource within the Office of Sponsored Projects and supports organizational effectiveness through the implementation of innovative solutions, automation tools, artificial intelligence applications, and continuous improvement initiatives.

    The position combines research administration expertise with analytical, technical, and operational responsibilities designed to increase departmental capacity, improve service delivery, reduce administrative burden, and support long-term organizational sustainability.

    Responsibilities

    • Support proposal development, award administration, compliance activities, and research administration operations.
    • Lead workflow modernization and process improvement initiatives across departmental functions.
    • Coordinate and support artificial intelligence implementation, workflow automation, knowledge management systems, and technology-enabled operational improvement initiatives.
    • Evaluate, develop, implement, and maintain artificial intelligence and technology-enabled solutions that improve operational effectiveness.
    • Analyze departmental workflows and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, scalability, and service delivery.
    • Develop, maintain, and analyze data for sponsored programs, institutional performance metrics, dashboards, and business intelligence tools to support the Director in strategic planning and decision-making.
    • Support research administration software platforms, technology integrations, system enhancements, and operational reporting tools.
    • Lead institutional knowledge management efforts, including documentation, templates, resource libraries, and procedural guidance.
    • Coordinate implementation of automation tools and technology solutions supporting research administration operations.
    • Support data collection, analysis, and reporting related to sponsored programs activity.
    • Assist with the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and organizational improvement projects.
    • Conduct research, benchmarking, and analysis to support operational decision-making and innovation initiatives.
    • Provide training and support related to new systems, technologies, workflows, and operational processes.
    • Collaborate with university stakeholders to identify opportunities for process enhancement and operational improvement.
    • Support special projects and emerging initiatives related to research administration and organizational effectiveness.
    • Monitor emerging technologies and best practices relevant to research administration, innovation, and operational excellence.
    • Serve as the university's subject matter expert in assigned areas of responsibility and provide guidance to faculty, staff, administrators, and external stakeholders regarding applicable policies, procedures, regulations, and best practices.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of the principles and practices of sponsored programs administration.
    • Knowledge of process improvement methodologies and operational effectiveness strategies.
    • Knowledge of artificial intelligence applications, workflow automation technologies, business intelligence tools, and organizational change management principles.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to evaluate business processes and develop innovative solutions.
    • Experience with data analysis, reporting tools, dashboards, and business intelligence concepts.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
    • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.

    Required Qualifications

    Required:

    • Bachelor's degree.
    • One year of experience in research administration, grants administration, project management, business operations, data analytics, process improvement, technology implementation, or a related field.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred:

    • Experience with workflow automation, artificial intelligence tools, business process redesign, or organizational improvement initiatives.
    • Experience supporting sponsored programs or higher education administration.
    • Experience in analyzing data and developing reports and dashboards.
