Grateful Patient Fundraiser

The Grateful Patient Fundraiser is a relationship-driven development professional responsible for helping build and grow Bronson Health Foundation’s grateful patient fundraising program. Reporting to the Senior Director of Major Gifts & Legacy Giving, this role plays a key part in identifying, engaging, cultivating, and stewarding patients and families who have experienced exceptional care and are inspired to give back through philanthropy.

This position partners closely with physicians, nurses, clinical leaders, and Foundation colleagues to create meaningful donor experiences that connect gratitude for care with philanthropic impact. The Grateful Patient Fundraiser will manage a portfolio of prospects and donors capable of making annual, mid-level, and future major gifts while helping establish scalable strategies, processes, and partnerships that strengthen the Foundation’s long-term fundraising pipeline.

This is a highly collaborative and externally focused role that requires emotional intelligence, professionalism, relationship-building skills, and sensitivity in working with patients and families in a healthcare environment.

Strategic Impact

  • Help build and scale a formal systemwide grateful patient fundraising program.
  • Increase identification, qualification, and engagement of grateful patient donor prospects across the health system.
  • Grow annual and mid-level giving while strengthening the Foundation’s future major gift pipeline.
  • Deepen collaboration between the Foundation, physicians, clinicians, and patients to foster a culture of philanthropy.
  • Support campaign readiness by expanding sustainable donor relationships and philanthropic engagement opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

Grateful Patient Program Development

  • Support the design, implementation, and growth of a comprehensive grateful patient fundraising program across the health system.
  • Help establish scalable processes for patient identification, referrals, engagement, and stewardship in collaboration with clinical teams and Foundation leadership.
  • Contribute to the development of workflows, tools, communication strategies, and best practices aligned with healthcare fundraising standards.
  • Ensure all donor outreach is conducted with professionalism, empathy, discretion, and compliance awareness.

Portfolio Management & Fundraising

  • Manage a portfolio of grateful patient prospects and donors focused on qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.
  • Develop individualized donor engagement plans that move prospects through the philanthropic pipeline toward annual, mid-level, and future major gift commitments.
  • Conduct donor meetings, relationship-building activities, and follow-up engagement opportunities.
  • Solicit philanthropic support aligned with Foundation priorities and patient-centered initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of donor activity, pipeline movement, and fundraising outcomes within the CRM system.

Clinician & Internal Partnership

  • Build strong and trusted relationships with physicians, nurses, clinical leaders, and staff to identify and engage grateful patient prospects.
  • Serve as a liaison between clinical teams and the Foundation to strengthen collaboration and communication.
  • Support clinicians and Foundation leaders in donor engagement activities, including donor briefings, meeting coordination, and stewardship efforts.
  • Help foster a culture of philanthropy and awareness of grateful patient giving opportunities across the organization.

Donor Experience & Stewardship

  • Ensure thoughtful, personalized, and relationship-centered engagement with grateful patient donors and families.
  • Partner with stewardship, communications, and events teams to create meaningful donor recognition and impact experiences.
  • Support patient-centered engagement initiatives, rounding activities, gratitude programs, and donor appreciation events that deepen philanthropic connection.

Program Growth & Data Management

  • Track and report grateful patient fundraising metrics, including referrals, visits, gifts, donor movement, and pipeline development.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of program strategies, workflows, and engagement practices.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of donor interactions and activity within the CRM in partnership with the development generalist and the data base coordinator
  • Ensure compliance with privacy standards, confidentiality requirements, HIPAA considerations, and healthcare fundraising regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of experience in fundraising, sales, client relationship management, healthcare engagement, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and manage a portfolio or book of business.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills with a high degree of empathy and professionalism.
  • Ability to work effectively with physicians, clinicians, executives, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a metrics-driven and relationship-focused environment.

Preferred Experience

  • Healthcare philanthropy, grateful patient fundraising, or hospital/clinical environment experience.
  • Experience with donor databases, CRM systems, or fundraising technology platforms.
  • Familiarity with moves management, donor stewardship, or major gifts fundraising practices.
  • Exposure to healthcare compliance, privacy, and patient engagement practices.
