What You'll Do
The Green End Superintendent will:
- Lead daily operations across the log yard, debarking, and primary breakdown areas
- Directly manage and develop sawmill supervisors through coaching, performance reviews, and accountability
- Drive production targets including throughput, recovery rates, and quality standards
- Champion a safety-first culture and ensure full OSHA and environmental compliance
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions
- Partner with the maintenance team to maximize uptime and minimize unplanned downtime
- Manage workforce planning, scheduling, attendance, and discipline through the supervisory team
- Own departmental budget performance, labor cost, and cost per unit metrics
- Use production data, downtime reports, and KPIs to identify and act on improvement opportunities
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and implement new best practices and technologies
- Serve as the key operational link between frontline supervision and senior leadership
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 5–10+ years of sawmill experience with leadership responsibility in green end operations
- Proven track record managing supervisors and frontline production teams
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety best practices
- Hands-on knowledge of sawmill equipment, processes, and production metrics
- Experience driving continuous improvement and process optimization in a manufacturing or wood products environment
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- High School diploma or GED required
Preferred:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Wood Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies
- Prior experience managing departmental budgets and labor cost

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
This is a safety-sensitive position in an active industrial environment. Candidates should be prepared to:
- Stand for the full duration of a scheduled shift
- Lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
- Bend, stoop, crawl, and occasionally climb stairs or ladders up to 6–7 feet
- Work in elevated noise levels (hearing protection required) and outdoor temperature extremes
- Maintain constant alertness around heavy equipment and hazardous materials
